So I have another issue. I have a Canon XF105 hooked up to a black magic intensity pro card via hdmi. I have a good pc with a gtx 650 gpu. So when I am using the preview screen of the video I am getting a second delay and also when I am using full screen. However, the strange thing is that when it record the footage using vmax in 1080p,there is no delay at all.

I7
Windows 7-64 bit
5900rpm raid 0 2tb
Gtx 650
Latest version of Vmix 32-bit
16gb ram

Hi,

Is there also a delay when playing other types of sources in vMix, such as a video clip?

Regards,

Martin

No. I heard Hdv does have a delay but is there no workaround it?

If you are using HDV, then yes, the delay is normal and is generated by the camera itself.

That doesn't explain why I get no delay or lag whatsoever when I record the stream to a file. This is true for any recording format

When recording the audio and video can be synchronised so the delay is not evident.

HDV is being phased out as a standard.

Most people are using capture cards and either SDI or HDMI to connect cameras.

So if I used hd-sdi from the canon xf105 to the blackmagic intensity pro capture card then no more delay?

First off, the Canon xf105 is newer and is HD and not HDV, so the delay is not related to any issues of the HDV format.
Secondly, there is an inherant delay in dealing with digital video processing whether SD or HD, I have heard of some situations getting it to within a couple of frames, but typically a 1/4 to 1/2 a second delay is not uncommon. Finding the bottleneck in a system and eliminating it is the key to minimizing the delay, but it will likely always be there.

The delay for HDMI and SDI sources is a lot less than HDV.
Approximately 3-4 frames for SDI compared with 15-20 frames for HDV.
