Video Delay - Extra Codecs Possible?

Hi,

The video delay feature seems to be a solid one, however the only codecs I'm able to use are all lossless, and this means the files are massive, causing vMix to freeze for around 10 seconds while a file is saved.

Is there a way to add some more codecs to drop down (H264 or WMV would be ideal).

I don't know if this would be so ideal to have another encoder running that is compressing heavily? I think this would eat a lot of cpu, no?

Sure, but I have a lot of cores to chew through it, and 10 second clips are not going to take long to save.

Having vMix entirely lockup for 10-15 seconds while it saves out a file isn't really functional.

Hi,

First, the Video Delay save is designed to happen in the background so it doesn't impact performance.
If you are seeing all of vMix lockup, this may mean the system is lacking resources or the hard drive is too slow.
See the system requirements below:

The codecs available are AVI only as they are generally use less CPU than something like WMV or MP4 which would take a lot longer to save.

Hi Martin.

The PC is a dual Xeon 12 core, 32GB of RAM and multiple SSD drives, I see no reason why it wouldn't be adequate yet it does still freeze up when saving instant replays.

The typical use case is 4 3G-SDI inputs at 1080p60, an external output via SDI out, local recording to one SSD and streaming simultaneously.

Is there anything you can suggest otherwise, or perhaps consider letting us choose compressed codecs in the future?

I output the SDI to another machine for backup captures and it does so at the same bitrate in h264 with no real performance issues, even though it's a lesser speced PC.

Sorry, I may have misunderstood.
The video delay will pause when saving a video clip, but the rest of vMix will still be functional.

The saving is designed not to interfere with the rest of the system, but still typically
saves faster than real time. So around 10-20 seconds for a 20 second clip for example.

If this is not suitable, I would suggest waiting for the release of the new instant replay
which will allow real time recording and playback of up to 4 sources.
