I recently downloaded demo version of vMix and love it so far. My camera is a Sony HDV-FX7 connected via firewire. Output settings from camera is 1440x1080i. Input settings for vMix match. Why am I experiencing "rendered dropped frames" and seeing interlaced lines?

I was experiencing some very bad dropped frames for a while, with no answers from the forum...I did some experimenting today, and am please with the results I have....

I am using SD,NTSC, 720x480, so I set everything to 59.94i, turned on "Blend" for camera and video playback, ticked Interlaced recording, but am unable to keep the settings for my USB grabber to 59.94i, so I have it set to 29.97, and for 1 hour of recording, I have 3 dropped frames on internal HD, and 3 for the same period on a USB external HD, until I opened 'My Computer', then I got 16 dropped frames.....so, I will run another test, giving vMix the highest priority available to see what happens....

Update: I have also discovered that setting a high buffer for recording also adds to dropped frames....a buffer of 10 - 15 works ok, anything higher caused dropped frames with me...setting vMix to a high priority, causes PC problems, seems to be causing high rate of dropped frames........strange, but true......

@xrook1 You probably see interlaced lines because your Input settings does not match the camera's output. In particular the deinterlace option is not set. I think vMix should take care of this automatically. But in my experience sometimes a little bit of experimenation with settings in the camera, vMix Master frame rate, and the Input for the camera is required.

@both I think, judging from similar experiences I have had, that vMix takes care of difference in source (what the camera outputs) and Input/Master frame rate settings by "dropping frames". Frames might also be dropped if there is a problem with the camera signal (eg caused by a long cable).

On a side note, Firewire is not a very good interface for video. Your camera is worth better. You would probably save a lot of time and effort by investing in an HDMI-card/USBdongle instead.
