Hi,
I'm new to Vmix and it looks great.
The main problem I'm facing relates to performance and I kindly ask for your advise:
Upon opening 3 clips/players, the frame rate drops + the recordings has a lot of dropped frames.
While in project, the system indicates that the utilization is no greater than 25%, black magic disk speeed indicates 220MB/s write and 224MB/s read - so I assume it isn't due to lack of resources.
Here's the log output:
27/03/2013 14:52:44, Version:9.0.0.124
27/03/2013 14:52:44, Size: 1920x1080
27/03/2013 14:52:44, System: PAL 50i or 25p
27/03/2013 14:52:44, Codec: Decklink MJPEG Compressor
27/03/2013 14:52:44, RestartInterval: 0
27/03/2013 14:52:44, StartRecording
27/03/2013 17:03:27, StopRecording
27/03/2013 17:03:27, Duration: 02:10:43
27/03/2013 17:03:27, Frames: 140298
27/03/2013 17:03:27, DroppedFrames: 111561
27/03/2013 17:03:27, DueToSourceFrameRate: 55784
27/03/2013 17:03:27, DueToHardDiskOrCPU: 55777

Hardware:
Intel i7 2600K
Ram: 8GB
win 7 64bit
Gforce GTX 470
MB: Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3H-BE
DeckLink HD Extreme 3
DeckLink Intensity Pro

Hi,

What is the format and compression of the clips you are playing back?

Martin

Dear Martin,
I appreciate if you can instruct me what are the bottle necks - thing I should avoid - i.e. mixing codecs and resolutions is it strictly "do not do" or may be ok with proper hardware?.
What would be your recommendation, hardware wise, in order to upgrade the system, in terms of performance - what is the component that has a vast impact on performance hence should be upgraded first and / or I should invest most?
Kind Regards,
Sharon.

Hi,

vMix doesn't require a lot of resources, the specs you have listed are well and truly enough to handle the majority of situations, so this is a particularly strange problem.
Have you tried just playing each clip separately then adding a second clip until the problem appears?

Regards,

Martin

Hi,
Yes, I did try that.
On its own - each clip doesn't cause the system to drop frame or stutter. Upon adding few clips - the problem starts to appear (I can see that the clip is not played at 25fps in the clip window).
I noticed that Vmix is brilliant - among other things/features, in terms of using the hardware in an efficient way. Hence my question - what resource can I "through in" to help Vmix handle the clips better.
Regards,
Sharon

What are the framerates of your clips, especially: are they all the same? And what is your system frame rate? Maybe there is a difference, like mixing 24fps and 30fps sources to a 50p output...

Hi,
The MS clip is 30 fps.
All other are 25 fps.
I'll render all clips to one format, size, fps and give it a spin. Will post my result here.
regarding right to left lang. such as Hebrew - how can I make ticker to run from right to left?
Regards,
Sharon
