Hi all!

Short introduction since this is my first post.

My name is Petter Jarbo, I'm TD (volunteer) at my church in the south of Sweden. We started a videoministry a year ago and we've just got it running.

We are currently using a Datavideo SE500 with two Panasonic DVX100B and a computer with a BMD Intensity Pro for capture. We are in the process of purchasing two new (or used) cameras and are leaning towards a couple of JVC GY-HD251.

We need a new mixer! Enter vMix, and I am impressed! A nice member gave us his used i7 computer (state of the art everything when the i7 came out)

To my question: Have anyone used the Decklink Duo? Can vMix use both inputs from this single card? I would like to do a six camera system, but the number of pci-e ports hinder us.

Thank you!

Petter

Hi Petter,

The Decklink Duo should work fine with vMix as we support all DeckLink and Intensity cards.
That specific card hasn't been tested though, so if you run into any issues I would be happy to offer any assistance to get it working for you.

Regards,

Martin

Sounds great!

My specific question about this card is if I can use it for two cameras simultaneously.

From the BMD site "DeckLink Duo is perfect for developers who need two completely independent capture and playback streams in and out of a computer, as both capture and playback channels are completely independent. "

That means I could do a 8 camera mixer with my computer :-)

Thanks!
Petter

Martin, since I'm thinking of buying this card and I don't have the money to spend if it wont work as I hope it will, should there be any trouble using both inputs simultaniously on the Decklink Duo?

I understand it hasn't been tested, but in your considerable experience with the code of vMix, could there be any problems, should I spend my money on the cheaper SDI instead?

I will not have enough money to buy the full version of vMix this year, but if our tests pans out, we will spend the money next year. Sofar, I'm impressed!

Best regards
Petter

The DeckLink Duo should work with both inputs in vMix straight out of the box.
If it doesn't there will only be a minor tweak required to get it to work with vMix, and I would be happy to make any adjustments as required.

As for running 8x cameras out of 4 cards, as long as you have plenty of memory bandwidth (DDR3 1066 or higher) and a fast processor (Core i7) it should be ok.
Just note that the duo requires a PCI-E x4,x8 or x16 port.

Thanks Martin!

I'm not actually planning on installing 4 of them at once. I will start with one and beef the machine with two Intensity pro too. Eventually I will want to get at least two more Duo cards for a six camera setup, but that's for the future.

Thanks for the heads up on the Duo requiring x4 or above. Wasn't aware of it. Will have to factor in a new MB when I get the next Duo :)

Will give update when the card is installed and running.

Great help around here! Whish all software developers were as forthcoming with information as you.

Thanks!
Petter
