Was hoping this was in a search on here but seems to not be (or I suck at searching, either one is likely true!)

I have a joystick for my PTZ camera, and have configured the move left/right/up/down and zoom in/out command. It seems to be lacking some features I either cannot figure out, or dont exist

-Ability to control speed by the joystick itself, either through a button for slow "on air" moves, that when not held, it defaults to the normal speed of "make me dizzy"

-Ability to control the active camera the joystick controls. I have a bank of 6 buttons on mine, and I'd like that to select which PTZ cam it is currently controlling.

Are any of these possible?
thanks 1 user thanked spencerm24 for this useful post.

What model of PTZ camera and what kind of controller are you using?

Camera is the Panasonic aw-he70

Controller is a Logitech Joystick 3D Extreme Pro.

It appears that the joystick is not a true midi controller as such. However I found an interface program that allows you to program the buttons into midi commands. http://little-scale.blog...pro-analog-joystick.html

With this interface you should be able to program the midi shortcuts in vMix accordingly. I’m not 100% sure if this will work but it’s just a thought. Maybe you are already doing something like this ?

spencerm24,
You might want to take a look att the PTZ camera control software from Rocosoft, I believe you can get a free trial version.
/richard
ps please try to be a little bit more descriptive in tha Topic's name, "PTZ" is very general. Makes it easier for us to assess if we can help a fellow vMixer. Thanks.

That would work, but I have a joystick already. I'm looking for a way to control the speed of the camera movement. Even as simple as a toggle button to go from slow to fast (on air move vs off air move) seems vmix only has "move" commands, not variable speed of the move. I can set the speed of the move command but that is locked and not variable.

Also, It seems I can only control one single input with the joystick, which makes it a major pain to control multiple PTZ cameras. I can't believe there's no option to select "CAM 1 is active for control" or "CAM 2 is active for control" The Logitech joystick and the XKeys joystick have buttons associated with them, so they can be used for "active control" toggle for the variable cameras.

Rocosoft is software, that works with many Joysticks including yours (I am pretty sure of). It is far more flexible than vMix's PTZ control. And if I remember correctly from our test (6 months ago) one can assign button on the Joystick that selects wich camera to control. I think we even assigned Joystick buttons to vMix shortcuts. One way for you to explore this is to download a trial version and do some experiments.

I will be downloading the trial and seeing how it works. Thanks.

Thanks, after reading that thread, it seems like variable speed control based on input pressure for the joystick is not possible at this time, I'd like to at least be able to mimic a dedicated controller for PTZ cameras, the one I have for mine that I was hoping to replace by integrating into vMix lets me gently pan if I just slightly touch the joystick, or fast pan if I crank it to one side, but seems vMix is binary, GO or STOP speeds with panning. I am waiting for the trial licence for Rocosoft's software mentioned here, to see if that works, but if not, I'll have to stick with the OEM Panasonic controller.

spencerm24, just curious, are you using R232 VISCA control or VISCA over IP?
I use a Logitech Wireless Gamepad and programmed the buttons to select which cam I want to control.

I believe it is over IP, in vMix I connect via the IP Address.

Hi Spencer

Looking forward to seeing your updates to your testing of a variable solution.

Best solution I have so far, is to use NDI, install the Newtek NDI software which has a built in PTZ Controller in the NDI Monitor. It is much smoother than the vMix controls. Its not perfect, but significantly better than native vMix controls. Only thing I'm not sure about now is how to change that to control more than 1 camera via buttons on the joystick through the NDI Monitor. in vMix it seems you'd put it on preview and set the PTZ control to preview, not sure yet how the NDI Monitor software would do this.
