I'm getting an audio delay when recording to wmv. And the delay seems to progressively get worse.

I'm using three Black Magic Intensity Pro cards with three sd camers on s-video inputs. I'm using an auxiliary mixer output from the house soundboard into one Intensity Pro audio input. I've had to set the auto mixing to OFF so the audio stays with the one card and video can be switched between cameras.

Can you help me with any tips to line up the audio and keep it lined up?

Thank you

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Are you running the latest version of vMix? (8.0.0.56)
If so, is the "vMix Audio" option being selected in the recording window as the audio source?

Do you hear the audio become delayed in the speakers/headphones or is it just in the recording?

Thanks,

Martin

We are running Vmix 8.0.0.56

I'm recording Vmix Audio (I don't want system sounds, only the audio from the mixing console)

I can't distinguish a delay in the headphones. I'll listen for it next time (tomorrow ill try some more tests) only in the recording.

Thank you for the quick reply. There are other issues I'm trying to work out to get best performance.

If you check out www.kalcc.org, select the "listen" button at the top right and select the Sunday service video to watch the results of Vmix recording uploaded to Vimeo directly.

There are interlacing issues and audio delay issues.

I would appreciate some input on ow to fix these issues.

We're using three SonynBRC-300 PTZ camers with S video and the three Black Magic Intensity Pro cards.

Thank you.

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

To solve the interlacing issues make sure the Deinterlacing box is set to "Blend" when selecting the capture input in vMix.
For the audio delay, do you still have the original recording files? If so there should be a log file included that can be sent to us for further investigation.

Thanks,

Martin

I've emailed you the text of the log file from the video. I see numbers in there about dropped frames in audio and delay, but I don't know what the numbers represent.

I will set the blend setting. I tried that last week and there was less deinterlacing artifact, but not as good as I hoped. Would there be a gain in performance to up convert the incoming sd signal in the Intensity Pro software settings to HD?

Thank you

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

For deinterlacing, the video format selected in vMix will need to exactly match the output of the camera.
So make sure any converting of the signal is turned off.

As for the audio delay, I can't see anything out of the ordinary in the logs.
Can you email me the vMix Preset with all of the cameras setup as you would for the recording.

Thanks,

Martin

I've selected sharpen and deinterlace for each camera and that seems to fix the picture, but the audio is still out of sync on the recording. What can I do to fix it?

Thanks

I did listen early in the sermon and on headphones from vmix in the computer sound add everything seemed aligned. This seems to be just the recording.

Hi Jeremy,

If you could send through the log file for a second recording that would be helpful to compare them to see
if there is something in common that might be causing the delay.

Martin

I emailed the log file and a link to the preset file as well as a link to today's results on Vimeo. It's hard to troublshoot without a live talker, the microphone and Vmix operator, but I'll try some more experiments this week.. I really want Vmix to work for this application.

I also tried to output directly to our screens, using Vmix as the main video switcher, but there was too much latency for our purposes. Is there any way to reduce latency to use Vmix for IMAG?

thank you

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Still looking into the audio delay, it might be the WMV encoder so would be worthwhile trying to record to MPEG-2 or AVI instead as a test.

How are you sending the output from vMix to the screen? If you use the secondary output of the graphics card and make sure the resolution and format is set
to exactly the same as the projector then the delay should be acceptable. (Similar to hardware HD mixers)

Martin

We have the output of the secondary screen set to 1280x720 for a few reasons - we ran the secondary screen output into a scaler to distribute to some TVs that are hooked to a modulator. At 1680x1050, the scaler couldn't fit the picture on the TV, so I changed down to 1280x720. Right now, due to low budgets, the projectors are mismatched - one is a 1024x768 native projector and the other is 1280x1024 native, so I can't actually run 1280x720 without scaling, but the delay we saw was on both projectors. Anyway, I'll try that again as we are working toward IMAG and if Vmix would work I'd be happy to use it.

I will try recording in MPEG2, but I'd still have to transcode it to upload to Vimeo. I tried uploading a MPEG2 file to Vimeo and it didn't work. Maybe I missed something? AVI is just too big to work with for what we're trying to do.

I also noticed a "jittery" looking picture every so often in the WMV file. As if the computer was catching up.

We want to go HD soon, but as it is we are SD and these three SD cameras with a screen capture input ought to be about as easy a load on the computer as there is.

Do I legitimately need to build an Intel machine?

Thanks

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

I think I have made some progress regarding the audio delay.
I've put in a couple of changes for the soon to be released vMix 9 so hopefully they solve the issue for you.
The release is expected to be out in a couple of weeks.

Martin

This is my experience. I recorded a video of 2 cameras and an external audio source. The streaming output was perfect in quality and sync.
The audio in the recording file was delayed of a half of second at the beginning and got worse until more than 30 sec after some minutes.
I used the AVI output type with standard configurations.
Back to my desk I made a test I tried with only a USB webcam with integrated microphone and the problem was exaclty the same.
So I decided to try the others output: MPEG-2 (ts and mpg), WMV (wmv1 codec), and all worked fine, no latency, no delay.

I'm using vMix 9.1.0.34

Does it mean anything?

Anyway, great product!

Stefano.
