You need a powerfull codec that is fast and doesn't use too much cpu cycles. Try Cineform.

MTS is a container format, not a compression format.

I'm confused. When you use vMix to record your shows, you should already know the codec you use, as you selected it in the recording settings?

Anyway, a good tool to inspect media file formats would be "mediainfo".

Depends on what you already have. There is no single best codec for every purpose. But for any purpose there are some decent codecs, and some of them are even free. Cineform has very good quality and is very fast; Canopus HQ/HQX codecs have even better quality, but are slower. MJPEG is extremely fast (at least some implementations are), but you may experience quality loss, especially over several generations of re-encoding. For any codec there is a tradeoff between image quality and file size, and in realtime recording you also should think about the transfer speed of your harddrive(s) - a ssd or raid system might be necessary to achieve best quality at 1920x1080 (try blackmagic hard disk advisor to get the speed of your drives).

In any case you might want to read up on video formats and video editing - it's a complex topic, more than could be discussed in the forum.

P.S.: Could you please at least put questionsmarks behind questions? Sometimes it's really hard to guess what you mean.
