Would be helpful to have a shortcut and trigger function for "audio fade"

Have you tried Fade to Black? Audio fades with the video...and I do not know why anyone would want an 'auto fade' for audio anyway....most, if not all producers I have worked with prefer to do any fades in post, or do manual fades from the audio mixer that they are getting the feed from...I do, and that is how I was trained......

I see the merits of cutter07's request, especially when transitioning from an opening sequence with BG music track or something similar. I like the music to slowly fade behind opening remarks and while it is preferable to do this manually as Bardos59 indicates, in a "one man" show it is not always practical to move the mouse around the screen as quickly as needed. Automating the process with a shortcut would be a good solution. I am not all that familiar with the current options available such as "Set Volume", "Audio", "Audio On" and "Audio Off" and if it is already possible to do this, but I suspect not (i.e. a slow 10 second fade of BG audio).

Exactly IceStream, for BG music I need the audio fade. I have a PlayList with intro video, title slides and fade to camera..., for this I play BG music until or before the camera faded in. To automate this I need an "audio fade" trigger on camera fade in.

In that case then, select "Automatically Mix Audio" in the Settings Menu...see if that does what you want.....

@ Bardos59

The problem with auto mixing with transition is that once the transition is complete, the audio is gone as well.
If you have an audio track that you want to slowly fade out during a program intro, or after coming back from a break, the only way to do that now is manually (and yes, it is the preferred way in a professional environment with appropriate staffing).
If you do not have the staff and are not using an external mixer, you have to use the slider in the vMix Audio Mixer.
At the same time you may also want to cut from camera 2 to camera 1, or zoom in on a virtual set, or for that matter have to fade up the host's or guest's mic.
So my point is that in a "one man" operation, there are too many simultaneous things happening for you to keep your mouse on the fader to slowly fade the music out and cut between cameras and/or overlay a lower third and/or fade up talent microphones.
Having a shortcut key option to help "automate" the process makes the producer/director's job that much easier.
For that matter, it makes the "self" broadcaster/video blogger's "show" that much more "professional" if they can run their whole program simply by using a few hot keys and not have to worry about fading potentiometers up or down.

"Automatically Mix Audio" works only if the audio is embedded in the video input. So if you fade out the video the audio is still playing even with "Automatically Mix Audio" set. For me it would be perfect to set a trigger in the video input to fade a specified audio out.

Do you add the audio from an external mixer with video input embedded or as separate audio input? I prefer to do it separatly, then the "Automatically Mix Audio" want work when fading video out or in.

I think for Martin it's easy to expand vMix with this functionality.

I have also looked for a audio fade solution.
On smaller productions or a one man show, you may not have a audio technician, so a audio fade in shortcut would be alot more convenient to fade in a audio track instead of using a midi mixer or doing it manually with your mouse.

On a side note, it should be stated that it is possible to set up an audio fade with a sequence of multiple 'Shortcuts' and/or 'Triggers', but I still agree that it would certainly be a lot more convenient and practical to do it with just one "Function" command.

It is possible the audio fade, I do.
Only Vmix 17 creates this audio fade, other versions have failed

In the section triggers its INPUT, you should stringing depending on whether you want to transition IN or OUT transition.

TRIGGER-------------FUNCTION-----INPUT------DURATION---DELAY---VALUE
On transition OUT--Set volumen--your input----10--------------80--------100
On transition OUT--Set volumen--your input----10--------------80--------90
On transition OUT--Set volumen--your input----10--------------80--------80
On transition OUT--Set volumen--your input----10--------------80--------70
On transition OUT--Set volumen--your input----10--------------80--------60

- Change the values (DELAY) according to the speed of molten wishing
- Change the values (VALUE) that amount of volume they want to get off
- Add more to zero

ENJOY

I have a need to adjust audio to predetermined levels. Not really fading audio out or in completely (although that would be very handy as well). I am constantly adjusting levels for commentary and bringing down the background audio when the commentators go live. It would be nice to be able to punch a button on my MIDI controller and ramp up commentary mic and bring down background audio via shortcuts. I have it set up with an On/Off shortcut now but I still prefer to use the sliders to gradually bring it in over time.

I can't wait to give this a shot. I tried something similar but couldn't get the results I was looking for. Thanks for the inspiration.

This would work, yes, but it would be so much prettier and cleaner if there was a shortcut that could accept a target volume level and a time parameter. This actually brings to mind, it would also be really nice to fade up or out an audio capture input instead of clicking the "Audio" button and having it immediately jump up to full volume. In the cases when you have audio entering vMix when not tied to a video input...

Hi,

If you have scripting access, as a rude workaround you may use the following code to fade out a audio input until there is a built-in fade function:

Code:

dim bgmi = Input.Find('BackgroundMusic')
dim i
for i=100 to 0 step -1
  sleep(40)
  bgmi.Function("SetVolume", i)
next i

Trigger a function to set [input] volume level to [%] in a time span of [xxxx] miliseconds.

Would be a very useful function in a lot of scenarios
