I am trying to find a way to do a Merge, using the Merge effect, where I can have the incoming image not fill the entire screen (full screen). I want to have 3 inputs, where I can zoom 1 to a larger size, making the other 2 inputs smaller[img][/img]as in the examples attached

There are some limitations in Merge as to how it handles the layering in the MultiView settings.
But you should be able to Merge between two inputs that have the layers configured as illustrated in your images. That is, one Input with the background Picture and three other Inputs in Layer 1, 2 and 3 - but differently positioned/sized.

Otherwise, try explaining in more details what does (not) happen when you Merge.

@ Bandit62

If I understand you correctly, you'll require 7 Inputs for your set-up to be most effective (IMHO):

Backround Image
Image/Camera 1
Image/Camera 2
Image/Camera 3
Mix/Effect Multiview 1
M/E Multiview 2
M/E Multiview 3

Using the "Merge" transition between any of the Inputs should yield a Zoom effect, but as Richard states, there are some limitations based on the layering, which may not give the best results optically (upper most layer is the focus) so you are best to test different configurations to understand fully.

I already did something like that using the virtual set empty preset. Maybe an option to try for you...

What I want to achieve is exactly how the images look...I want to maintain backgrounds, or a looping video or graphic, 3 inputs as indicated in the images I posted. But when I use the Merge effect, I keep getting a full screen of the selected input...What I want to achieve, is a reduced image as in the examples...I want to avoid full screen of any of the inputs....Merge in vMix gives a full screen output...I want a cropped or scaled output.... I was wondering if there is a setting in the merge effct to give a scaled output....

pls describe the Inputs (sources/multiview layers) that are in Preview and Output when you initiate the Merge.

I use merge a lot with multiple inputs, and understand how it works....what I am trying to achieve, is a look like the images I posted...I do NOT want a merge to Full Screen, I want to keep the layout the same all the time, just swapping the inputs...

@ Bandit62

Have you tried using 3 separate M/E Multiview Inputs (as I suggest above)?
I understand you don't want the "Fullscreen" Image, but you will still need the Fullscreen Input for the Special Effect to work properly, just be sure to never send it to Program Output.
For the effect you want, you need to transition between the 3 special effect Mutiview Inputs (what I call Mix Effect MultiViews), otherwise you are returning to the original "Fullscreen" Input.

Think I figured out a way, not very sleek, but it does exactly what I wanted...took a little time to get nearly correct, but some tweeking will make it accurate, What I did was to create 2 virtual inputs, and rearrange the 3 inputs so that they will appear where and how I want them, and depending on which input I want to be the large image, I just select that 'Virtual input', and use the 'Merge' transition, and it works ok...just have to play with the speed to get it looking smooth.

Yes, your "Virtual Inputs" are the "M/E Multiview" Inputs I referenced (there are multiple ways of achieving this, I'm glad you figured one of them out)...
