Anyone using vMix with a Macbook Pro? We are thinking of getting one to use vMix via Bootcamp. Thunderbolt just gives us more opportunities for our 1-2 camera setup.

Thanks for any feedback.

Hello,

Yes works great, I have 2 x MacBook Pros (both Quad Core i7) doing this (One with Iris Pro 5200 and the other more expensive with NVidia). Currently running Windows 7 via Bootcamp. (not really interested in Windows 8). I went with MacbookPro as was using Black Magic capture equipment and found usb3 unreliable (no inbuilt scaler and drivers were working and then not, a single Windows or VMix update = headache for me). Since moved back to usb3, but found Magewell equipment reliable and no headaches as they are driver less on the usb3 models.

We are also using a thunderbolt 2 docking solution to get 3 extra usb 3 ports, plus lan from one thunderbolt 2 port..

I find myself using the Mac Partition for browsing and anything else. The Windows/Vmix partition for doing that job. The top end MacBook Pros actually have very good hardware inside them and a lovely display.

I've run 3 full HD inputs and streamed using FFMPEG from this setup. All usb3 magewell capture devices. I think it could do 4 maybe on the ever so slightly faster MacbookPro, but was pushing the limits of the Iris Pro 5200 model with 3 inputs.

Now more laptops have thunderbolt 2 ports available I'm not sure I would buy a MacbookPro again for Vmix. So far however it really has been a solid laptop for about $2-3k (on special) .. As most people say get the best one you can afford. Don't use the dual cores unless your needs are basic, you will run out of grunt, I tried for a while as I wanted a 13", but it got another job after 2 months of Vmixing.

New Top End has switch graphics card to:

AMD Radeon R9 M370X with 2GB of GDDR5 memory

Note: I'm using the models prior with Iris Pro 5200 only and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M, no idea if the Radeon would be better or worse.

Regards,

Speegs

thanks for your help... as I am going to use it for a 1-2 camera setup it looks like a Macbook should be great to run vMix and suit my needs. :-)
