Hi All,
I have a question, I am looking at using an AJA IO 4k, but does anyone know, Can I use 4 SDI Inputs and have a simultaneous external SDI output for program? or am I limited to 3 inputs if I want to use an output as well?
Thanks for your help on this.

@ curtismacd31
My guess is that it is either Input OR Output but not simultaneous IN and OUT on the same connector. I could be wrong but this is what my understanding is from page 13 of the above pdf manual:
"Bi-directional SDI I/O Four bidirectional BNC connectors can be configured via the AJA Control Panel for: • HD/SD inputs (x2) and outputs (x2) • Or you can input or output 4 channels of video representing individual quadrants of the higher definition Ultra HD (3840x2160) and 4K (4096x2160) formats."

The IO4K is a four channel device, so you can do 4 things at once, that could be 3 in + 1 out or 4 in only or 2 in + 2 out

The AJA has 2 thunderbolt ports. You could try to daisy chain a BM Mini Monitor to get the extra channel. I don't have an AJA, but I have done this successfully with another thunderbolt enclosure and my new TB3 laptop, but didn't work with my older TB1 laptop.

Also have a look at the discussion about using the Akitio thunder3 pcie enclosure. this can hold a bm duo 2 card or even a decklink quad 2 with eight inputs outputs. the advantage is that it is more flexible and cost effective. the enclosure is about 300 and cards you may already have...
it runs on thunderbolt 3 so it is also future proof.
currently testing this and very happy. I can also daisy chain a second set or a bm mini ...

stefan I do have an Akitio thunder2 with a Startech Thunderbolt3 to Thunderbolt2 adapter. I used it with a Decklink Quad 2 that I borrowed to test and it worked great. I just came across a AJA io 4K for $1000USD and was hoping it would do 4 In and 1 Out simultaneously, but it won't. Still a great price for that unit. I'm either gonna sell it and get a BMD Decklink Quad2 or maybe keep it and use it with a BMD Mini Monitor. Thanks everyone for the replies.
