VRC (Video Recording Control Hub)

πŸ“Ί Watch VRC Demo on YouTube
πŸ‘‰ Download Latest Release from GitHub
πŸ“– Read the Full Documentation

VRC is a centralized Windows application designed to remotely MONITOR and CONTROL multiple vMix instances and Blackmagic ATEM switchers from a single, rock-solid dashboard.

The Problem It Solves
In large-scale live productions, your equipment is rarely sitting on the same desk. You might be managing a massive corporate conference with 15-30 different halls, operating instances across different buildings, or monitoring remote servers in other cities where you have absolutely zero physical access.

VRC is built for this exact scale. It turns any Windows tablet or laptop into a Global Master Control Room. Stop relying on laggy remote desktop apps or constantly guessing if a remote node is still recording. Perfect for broadcast engineers, technical directors, and large event crews who need to monitor dozens of distributed machines simultaneously and prevent on-air failures.

UserPostedImage

πŸ”₯ Key Features

1. Global Multi-Device Control (vMix & ATEM)
Start, stop, and manage Recording, Streaming, External outputs, and Multicorder across all your remote vMix machines simultaneously. Full integration with Blackmagic ATEM switchers (control HyperDecks, SDI Camera Recording, DSKs, M/E Transitions, and FTB).
πŸ‘‰ View 18 cards Screenshot

2. The Watchdog (Trigger-Based Rule Engine)
A smart rule engine that protects your broadcast by evaluating your setup based on specific on-air actions. It operates on 4 exact triggers: TransitionIn, TransitionOut, OverlayIn, and OverlayOut.
When a trigger fires on a specific input, Watchdog instantly checks your predefined conditions across all machines and automatically executes corrective commands if something is wrong.
Example: WHEN "Main Camera" triggers TransitionIn -> CHECK if the Backup machine is Recording. If false, VRC automatically sends a command to start recording.

3. Deep PC Health Monitoring & Alerts
Track CPU/GPU usage and remaining free disk space (with selective drive monitoring) across all remote nodes in real-time.
Send critical events (recording drops, Watchdog violations) to 8 external alert channels including Telegram, Discord, Slack, MS Teams, ntfy, and Webhooks.
πŸ‘‰ View PC Monitoring Screenshot

4. Native External Controller Integration (Stream Deck / Companion)
Bind your external controllers directly to VRC commands. VRC provides zero-delay visual feedback (Smart Tally) back to your controller.
πŸ‘‰ View Stream Deck Integration Screenshot

5. Smart Automation & UI Safety

  • Task Scheduler & Web Dashboard: Build automation chains with delays and monitor tallies from your phone.
  • Interactive Safety Lock: Prevent accidental clicks on critical live devices with visual shake-feedback and smart hints.
  • Enterprise Stability: Highly optimized memory consumption designed for 24/7 continuous broadcast sessions without leaks.

Trusted in heavy multi-machine environments, including major broadcast studios like DGO (DirecTV GO).

πŸ›  Installation (Important!)
IMPORTANT: VRC is a locally signed .msix package. You MUST install the included security certificate first, otherwise Windows will block the installation.

  1. Download and extract the .zip archive from the Releases page.
  2. Install the certificate: Right-click the `.cer` file -> Install -> Place it in "Local Machine" -> "Trusted People".
  3. Install Dependencies: Run the Windows App Runtime installer located in `Dependencies\x64`.
  4. Install VRC: Double-click the main VRC .msix file.

Hi everyone,

I've just rolled out a new update for VRC. When managing multiple vMix nodes during a live broadcast, preventing accidental clicks is critical. But safety features shouldn't leave you guessing why your interface isn't responding.

We've overhauled the interaction logic for locked device cards.

πŸš€ What's New: Interactive Safety Lock
No more "silent" ignoring of your clicks. We've made the card locking system much more intuitive:

  • Visual Feedback: If you try to control a locked card, the Lock icon will now shake, showing you exactly why the command didn't go through.
  • Smart Hints: A helpful popup will guide you to click the lock icon if you're struggling to control the card (features a cooldown so it won't spam your screen).
  • Full Control: Don't like popups? Power users can disable them entirely via Settings -> Application -> Lock Hints.

UserPostedImage

πŸ›  Improvements

  • Better Synchronization: Reliable lock state syncing across all sections (Audio, Inputs, Status).
  • New Settings: Added a "kill switch" for educational hints.
  • Localization: Full support for both English.

You can grab the latest MSIX package from the GitHub Releases page. Let me know what you think!

Installed it on a test rig today. The UI is slick and the local WMI monitoring is great, no arguments there. But realistically, how does this hub scale? If I have 10 vMix nodes running across different subnets in a large facility, or even trying to control a remote instance over a VPN – what’s the latency like? Does VRC handle connection drops gracefully, or will the UI freeze up waiting for an API response? Curious to hear if anyone has stress-tested this beyond a simple local gigabit switch.

Hi everyone, just wanted to share a really exciting update! πŸš€

A user from Argentina (Pablo Herrera) recently reached out and shared a photo of VRC Hub being actively used in the live production studios of DGO (DirecTV GO)!

UserPostedImage

The audio operator there is using VRC as a dedicated external dashboard to control audio gain and monitor SRT stream statuses independently, without needing to touch or clutter the main vMix vision mixer.

This was exactly my main goal when designing the UI β€” keeping it simple, lightweight, but giving you all the necessary controls at a glance. Seeing this tool running in a major broadcast environment is a massive motivation to keep pushing updates.

A big thank you to everyone in the community who has downloaded, tested, and provided feedback so far!

If anyone else is using VRC in their daily productions, I’d love to see your setups. Feel free to share your photos or drop any feature requests right here in the thread.

Cheers,
Aleksandr

VRC 1.1.0: Protect your broadcast with Watchdog Auto-Fix & External Alerts

πŸ“₯ Download & Install
VRC is fully tested in heavy multi-machine environments.
Download the new stable release here: GitHub - VRC v1.1.0
Ever had a show where a secondary vMix dropped its recording, and no one noticed until it was too late? Or the audio master got muted by accident? VRC 1.1.0 is here to make sure you never lose footage again.

UserPostedImage

πŸ›‘οΈ The Watchdog (Cross-Device Auto-Fix)
A real-time rule engine that monitors your entire setup and catches problems before they ruin your broadcast.
Example: WHEN the "Slate" leaves PGM -> CHECK if Main, Recording, and GFX machines are all Recording. If the Rec server dropped its recording, VRC AUTOMATICALLY sends a corrective command to restart it before the operator even notices. Zero footage lost.

πŸ“’ 8 External Alert Channels
Windows toasts aren't enough when you are looking away from the UI. Forward critical events (recording drops, Watchdog violations, connection issues) to your team's phones.

  • Supported providers: Telegram, Discord, Slack, MS Teams, ntfy, Custom Webhooks and more.
  • Smart Routing: Filter by device and category. E.g., send only "AudioMasterMute" alerts to the sound engineer's Telegram, while the producer gets Recording/Streaming drops.

---

What's New in This Version?
This update focuses heavily on rock-solid stability and speeding up your setup process.

πŸš€ Performance & Rock-Solid Stability
Significant improvements in memory consumption. We've completely overhauled how the UI handles background data and interop, ensuring the application remains lean, fast, and 100% stable even during 12+ hour continuous broadcast sessions.

πŸ’Ύ Selective Drive Monitoring
You can now manually choose exactly which drives to monitor for free space. Exclude your system or non-production drives so you only see warnings for the drives you actually record to.
UserPostedImage

πŸ” Quick Function Search
Added a real-time text search for vMix functions within the Scheduler (Tasks) and Shortcuts. Stop scrolling through endless dropdown listsβ€”just type the command name to find what you need instantly.
UserPostedImage

⚑ Workflow Efficiency: Duplication
Setting up complex logic just got much faster:

  • Shortcut Duplication: Easily clone existing shortcuts to assign multiple functions to a single button without starting from scratch.
  • Task Duplication: Duplicate tasks in the Scheduler to rapidly build automation chains or repetitive sequences.

Hi Kotin,

first of all, thank you for developing this great app.

We are a streaming company based in Düsseldorf, Germany, and we produce a lot of content using vMix and Blackmagic workflows, as well as OBS. So this is a very interesting tool for us. I recently installed it and am currently setting it up since we are planning to let it run during a production next weekend as a test.

During setup, I noticed that Replay seems to be missing from the Watch Rules. On the dashboard, it is visible whether Replay is active or not, so it would be very helpful if the Watch Rules could also monitor this and trigger a warning accordingly.

Another thing that would be interesting for us is whether there are any plans to integrate OBS? It would be perfect if connection status, backtrack recording or other OBS elements could also be monitored.

Looking forward to your feedback!

Best regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

First of all, thank you very much for your feedback and kind words! It’s incredibly motivating to hear that a production company from Düsseldorf is testing VRC for a live broadcast. User requests like this are the best fuel for development!

Regarding Replay in Watch Rules:
You are absolutely right. Since the dashboard already tracks the Replay status, adding it to the Watch Rules makes perfect sense. I will start working on this feature today and will do my best to release an update before your production this weekend so you can test it.

Regarding OBS integration:
I will definitely study this request and look into the technical possibilities of implementing it (likely via OBS WebSocket). However, at this moment, I cannot give you an exact timeframe for if or when it might be ready.

Good luck with the production this weekend! I would be very happy to hear how VRC performs under real load.

Best regards,
Aleksandr

Just wanted to give you a quick update: VRC version 1.1.7.0 is now live, and it includes the Replay condition for the Watch Rules that you requested!

You can now set up rules to monitor if your Instant Replay is actively recording. It also fully supports the Auto-Fix feature β€” so if a trigger fires (like a TransitionIn) and Replay isn't recording, VRC can automatically send the ReplayStartRecording command to vMix to make sure you never miss a moment.

You can download the latest version from the GitHub releases page.

I hope this comes in handy for your test run. Have a great and smooth production this weekend! I would love to hear how the setup performs.
