GoPro seems to be working via VLC. Anyone can try to catch the feed via vMix? Or is there just no option for that?

Hi,

I've tried importing a GoPro Hero 3 stream into vMix with success actually.

The footage received however, was not usable at all.

This would be because a GoPro WiFi stream is highly compressed and has lots of delay. This would be because it is not meant to show live high quality footage, but as a low resolution monitor for checking the angle of the camera on the go with a mobile application.

Also, the GoPro unit itself doesn't have the processing power to encode a higher quality video stream.

Hope this answers your question.

Cheers,
Håvard

And if you wondered how, that would have been through VLC's streaming feature with the GoPro as input, running a local stream to vMix, adding even more delay...

thanks for the reply... in fact that helps a lot... in that case the easiest way for a goal-cam would be an ip-cam or a GoPro (or any other actioncam) attached to a Teradek Cube/Vidiu.

I tried a little with GoPro black, and did not even get a descent video signal via HDMI.
Maybe me, googled for a while and it seems that GoPro is best suited for internal recording.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

I made a little video for you to decide. I think its decent, but nothing more. Lots of handy-cams can deliver better image quality over the HDMI than this.

Thanks Håvard,
More like a still image than a video ;) But what I saw looked pretty OK.

Can't really remember what kind of issues I had with GoPro HDMI out in to vMix. Might have been stuttering, or pixelation, or something else. I just gave up as it is not important for us at the moment.

Thanks Håvard,

one simple question. The video shown - how did you capture that? Did you send the signal from the GoPro HDMI-Output via cable or via transmitter (f.e. Teradek Cube)? Or was it with the included Wifi-Connection?

Thanks for clearing that up.

Because I don't own a GoPro 3 nor a WiFi backpack for mine (I did the whole GoPro 3 WiFi testing with my friends GoPro), I have to go for the Hero 2's Mini-HDMI output onto my Intensity Pro card in my production PC.
