I've been looking around but can't find any info on this:

Is it possible to create an auto-scaling background (image or a simple rectangle) for text? This is crucial for Lower thirds, so you're not left with whitespace or text falling out of the background graphic.

Hi

Have you tried using the Mask feature underneath the Effects Tab

To create a mask create a rectangle say with white bg and then some black text.

Place the text over your rectangle and then with the text active select Effects Tab -> Mask

Then select the rectangle as the masking object

That doesn't do anything.
If I do it the other way round (selecting the rectangle and then masking using the text layer) I get a tiny outline on the text similar to a stroke but not controllable.

So in short: that doesnt work.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

there are fonts that have box backgrounds if that's a workaround you're looking for
