I worked for a CG company for 17 years. The proper terminology is:
Crawl - a text display that moves left/right. For example, a headline crawl on a news channel.
Roll - a text display the moves up/down. For example, the end credits of a movie.
To do both of these things well is a non-trivial matter. You may be well advised to consider an external CG application (Lyric, CasparCG, etc.)
There may be considerable advantage to having the CG generated on a different computer, using NDI to send it to the vMix system. This is most especially true if you want the text display to be updated remotely.
In the case of credit rolls, the text to be presented may well be known in advance. In that case, you can pre-render the roll using After Effects (or similar.) vMix can play the resulting file.
