I am trying to find the best way to connect my Sony HVR-HD1000U to my Dell laptop. I have successfully connected it via a Firewire cable (Sony calls them iLink cables)to my laptop through a Firewire Express card. It seems to work - but we keep losing audio or it seems a little glitchy. Should I buy some kind of capture device? The BM Intensity says its not compatible with Dell??

Any ideas?

If you can use a ExpressCard and your camera has HDMI have a look at the Timeleak HD82E....http://www.timeleak.com.cn/en/article/view.php?ps_db=prod&pnid=2&ps_aid=19

Otherwise check out the Magewell Capture devices. http://www.magewell.com/hardware?lang=en

Write your Dell's specification, because the only thing we know is the brand. We also know it has expresscard.

I can tell You that I sucessfully use my Dell Precision laptop with expresscard HDMI grabber manufactured by Yuan
http://www.yuan.com.tw/e...oducts1_1_spec_sc500.htm (the one on the right). You can find this card under different brandname (for example swedish brand JMC in Europe).

I posted the specs. Is firewire okay to use in the first place?

No. Using firewire results in large video delay.
Use HDMI capture cards.
