I am using activators with an X-Keys 24 to change the color of a button when inputs are in the output window.
Is there a way to turn off a range of buttons (the buttons I don't want the user to press)
I see where I can change the color for a range using the Default activator, but don't see a way of turning off the lights.

you're close! In the "Type" where you'd normally select XKEYS Button, Select "off"
