I'm trying to decide weather to go a 3U rack based system with the specs below or a high end laptop version... thoughts?

Also any help on a suitable cooling system for a rack based system that gets moved around a lot would be great!

RACK SYSTEM:
X299 DESIGNARE EX
Intel Core i9 7920X
GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
32GB RAM
2 x Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2 1TB SSD
2 x Blackmagic Design DeckLink 8K Pro
1 x Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K
1 x YUAN SC560N4 HDMI
850W PSU
Cooling?
3U Case?

LAPTOP SYSTEM:
Aorus X9 DT - https://www.aorus.com/product-detail.php?p=748
Sonnet Echo Express SE III
2 x Blackmagic Design DeckLink 8K Pro
1 x YUAN SC560N4 HDMI

850w is ok
Water is better but air usually is ok too if well done

Check if you can use 2x nvme plus 5x pcie card. I think can not. Because some nvme share bandwith with pcie slot.

You can not compare this system with a laptop. All laptops has same basic problem, heat disiparion.

Regards

Jose.

Are you sure that a 3U system is high enough for a GTX 1080? I have 4U rack systems and it seems that 1U less wouldnt br high enough with all cables and that.

I recently attempted this in a 3U case, and it was unsuccessful for exactly the reason you mentioned. 4U is as low as you can go for a 1080 GPU.

It's true! 3U is too short to accommodate a 1080 GPU. My former employer built 4U and 5U systems, which had enough space for the taller PCIe boards. Larger cases also provide better airflow without resorting to the complexity of water cooling.

The Decklink 8K is 4 bi-directional SDI connections in parallel.

Does that mean 2 inputs 2 outputs?

Hey there,

Did you go with the laptop or rack unit ?

I'm looking for reviews on the YUAN 4 HDMI card, did you experience any trouble with it ?

Thanks
