Hello all. New to vMix, previously used WIrecast. Does it make a difference in using overlay or just layering a shot with multiview? In other words, if I want a logo to appear on my main shot, should I use the overlay or just build a 2nd shot of the main shot with the logo as a multiview? I know both get the job done, but not certain if there are pros/cons that I am unaware of.

Thanks much!

I consider multiview to be more permanent. We use a bug for most shots except for commercials. And if you want to setup a trigger that will remove the bug when you remove the shot, that is fine, but otherwise I think it is easier to put it in the Multiview.

I use the overlay for things I want to show over my normal shot. For example, I have one setup for PIP of our 2nd camera. Lower thirds. Credits sometimes. Anything I want to be able to bring up and down quickly.

Harkening back to my time with hardware production switchers....

...I think of multi-view as the keyers on the mix/effects buses. That's where I build complex composites before they are seen.

The overlay are the downstream keyers, for items that are transient, coming and going independent of the underlying shot.
