VST plug in's are great for adding audio tricks to any audio production. Can vMix use VST plug in's natively? If it can't I would like to add that as a feature request. The reason this is a feature request and not a general discussion question is that I would also like a 'hard limiter' beyond VST's. With VST I could add a hard limiter via a plug in. Heck I could get the Compander for only $39 from Waves. http://www.waves.com/plugins/c1-compressorCompressor plugin with gate and sidechain Compressor/Expander, Gate/Expander, Filter/EQ modules By Hard Limiter I mean something that keeps audio from going beyond a certain point. Once it gets close to that point it compresses the signal down so it doesn't peak or spike or go beyond maximum. I know that vMix has a compressor that could be used to do hard limiting except it is not a 'user friendly' as having a hard limiter. A simple slider that says NEVER GO LOUDER THEN THIS, literally screaming the volume to the maximum. Why do I need that? To avoid going over the maximum volume and 'clipping'. In audio when you have 3 or 4 or more inputs having the ability to control each ones minimum volume with gates and maximum output via hard limiters you avoid messed up audio. I see the Master Audio Track using a Hard Limiter as being SUPER USEFUL for everyone using vMix. Thanks everyone for checking this out and please +1 for VST or for hard limiting or BOTH. This Freeware VST plug in calls it a brick wall, ?t=13s I used the term Hard Limiter. There are many names except they mean the same thing. Thanks again for checking this out. Rich Shumaker

Given that VST audio plug-in support has been requested many times before, and isn't available yet, here's a suggestion for all those who would like to have some sort of limiter but who may not have fully explored the existing audio options.
The general definition of a limiter is a compressor with a compression factor of at least 20:1. vMix offers a compressor on each of its output groups with a ratio up to 25:1, so start by going into the settings for the Master output and set the ratio to 25:1 and enable the Compressor. Now in theory you could set the Threshold to around -4dBfs and be protected from peaking past 0dBfs, but the attack isn't as fast as is needed for a digital "brick-wall" limiter, so you need to set the threshold somewhat lower. In fact this is an "AOT" value (Adjust On Test), meaning you may need to experiment a bit depending on the type of audio content you're passing through it (e.g. speech or music, where speech may need a lower threshold value than music). A value between -18 & -10dB would be a good starting point.
This is far from being the best possible limiter, but if you're restricted to using the tools within vMix (as opposed to doing all audio mixing/processing externally) then it can prove quite effective with some (but not all) types of audio content. With more control over attack/decay times it could probably be more effective as a limiter.

dsolomon wrote:+1 - we use Stereo Tool on our radio stations and would love to use it in VMix. HI !! i use StereoTool on vMix with a workaround..... yes it works, but ... you have to sinc the audio with the video... with vmix audio time delay... use this 2 apps : https://o-deus-audio.com.au/ASIOLinkProand : http://www.niallmoody.com/apps/pedalboard2Cheers, PFBM PS: put stereotool in multicore cpu to lower latency :)

Cheers, PFBM PS: put stereotool in multicore cpu to lower latency :) Thanks for this I will check it out. Also I do use the internal audio tools to do things and the compressor usage above by "zenvideo" is what I was discussing that you can currently do when I said "I know that vMix has a compressor that could be used to do hard limiting except it is not a 'user friendly' as having a hard limiter." Honestly what I have been hoping for is some type of NDI audio support in a program that would allow round tripping the audio. Similar to what you are discussing except with NDI. Many people are using NDI with titles and screen captures so why not audio. Basically you would have a PC for Audio that would NDI over to vMix and yes I know I could just as easily do an Analog output from PC one to PC two Analog Input, heck I could even make a digital signal path. At the end of the day having it all in one place is much more straight forward. Add On to my request if adding VST is near impossible, which it might be, how about adding HARD LIMITING to the existing compressor tool? Thanks again everyone for all the help and suggestions I greatly appreciate it. Rich Shumaker

The ability to use the OptiMaxx plug-in would be one of the best solutions for compressor/limiter. We use it on all or audio streams and it works and sounds fantastic

Already did some testing with my Waves and iZotope VST3 64bit plugins on the master and it looks like it will add much more audio control with very little CPU hit.
Great addition!
