Where did my MPEG codec go?

I'm sure I'm not the only one this has happened to, but I couldn't find any reference when I searched. We're running the latest version on a Win7 64bit machine All of a sudden we start getting a warning/alert that MPEG is not a supported codec. Since when? and how do I get it back. I've tried a fresh install, altho I didn't uninstall the old version 1st?
Any Ideas? Thanks

Its same codec, but in some versions of windows its a licensing issue. FFMPEG has it a version built in.

Hi. Windows 10, does not support Window Media Center WMC found in win8.1 and I think win7. So I searched the net and I found WMC for win10. After I installed, it worked I hope this answer solve this problem.

Thanks all, But the MPEG-2 worked fine two weeks ago. Why did it go away? It also still works in a companion computer. I'm not a big fan of WNV files.
