How to mount the tally light unit to the video camera?
Is there a hot shoe or tripod mount at the bottom?
The cable can be how long?
Is there a need for batteries at the tally light unit?

Each tally light has 2 holes on each side which can be used create a custom attachment to suit the camera. You could also drill a hole into the lid of each tally light as it has indentations designed to assist drilling.
Cables up to 40m or so in length should work fine. You could build stereo 3.5mm to cat5 cables to extend further.
The tally lights do not require any batteries or an external power source.

Hi Martin!
It's possible to buy just the board ("OEM")? I want to go on with my hardware switcher and vMix handling lights will be excellent for me.
Thanks! Regards.

Hi Martin, Is there an output option for just connecting to standard Camera tally inputs....for instance via Sony ccu's and is it a contact closure tally? or if i converted the 3.5 to Xlr?
Obviously most Sony heads (both older sd heads like the D50, and HD heads like the 1000) take the tally via Xlr connector on the CCU.....just thinking down the line for my own uses really.

Being a tinker/maker conversant in Aruino, I truly appreciate vMix support of tally lights through that embedded platform. Looks like I'll be building a small tally light setup myself.
Thanks!
Michael

Following up, do you have an Arduino code segment so I may determine what messages you send to Arduino?
I'm actually going to use your tally light system to turn the vMix audio output to a talent earpiece on and off depending on which input I have queued.
Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael,
vMix simply sends a digital on/off to the relevant pins. You can see the pin mappings in vMix Settings -> Tally Lights

is thera way to get tally light info and / or a settings overview of inputs etc via wifi on an ipad. just the way the remote works.
this way tally info could be provided wireless to a cameraoperator and this would solve a big cabling problem.
alteratively specific info could be sent over something like whats app. something like cam on cam off so at least the cameraman knows he is live or not. any ideas? stefan

I thought about the idea of having a page available like the following:
http://localhost:8088/tally1
The page would just show a solid colour (green, orange or red) and change depending on the status of the tally lights. Then it could be used with any mobile phone with wifi access.
Is this something people would find useful?

The vMix Tally Light Set is being superseded by a new WiFi / phone based system in vMix 11!
This means you will be able to instantly turn any WiFi mobile phone into a Tally Light and mount it above or next to your cameras. Cheap WiFi enabled phones are available on eBay for $50 US making this a very cost effective solution (no SIM required).
We still have plenty of the existing Tally Light sets for sale for those that prefer wired solution and they will continue to be supported by all future versions of vMix.

Martin vMix

This sounds very interesting, will any WiFi enabled device such as the iPod touch work as well?
