vMix IO Beta is now available!

Download

https://cdn.vmix.com/download/vMixIO-Linux-x64.zip

Information

vMix IO is a free application that converts capture devices into Open Media Transport (OMT) inputs and outputs on the network.
More information on OMT can be found at https://www.openmediatransport.org

It does not require a GPU, and is controlled via simple web interface, making it a cost effective companion to a main vMix PC where more inputs are needed.

System Requirements

* PC with an x86_64 processor supporting at least AVX2 (no GPU needed!)
* Minimum 8GB of DDR5 memory. Dual Channel memory recommended for > 4x 1080p sources
* Linux Mint 22.3 or higher
(Other Debian based distributions higher than version 12 should also work)
* A Blackmagic DeckLink capture card with the latest drivers installed.
(Other capture cards that support V4L2 (Linux) should work but have not been tested)
* A gigabit network card (2.5Gbps required for > 4x 1080p60)
(Intel and Realtek 2.5Gbps network cards have been tested)

More information and installation instructions can be found in the README inside the download.

Reference system and case design

Hardware specs for a recommended system along with case designs to print a compact MiniITX case can be found below:
https://github.com/vmixhd/vmixiocase

Where is the Windows version?

A Windows version of vMix IO is expected to be released later.
However, as the goal of vMix IO is to be a (relatively) low cost network device, Linux is the focus of the initial release.

Bug Reports

Simple bug reports can be posted in this thread, however for more complex discussions please create a separate topic within the Beta Discussion forum.

Briefly tested vMix IO on a Debian 13 Trixie (virtual) machine.

Needed to install the following additional packaghes:
Code:
sudo apt install libsamplerate0 webp avahi-daemon libavahi-client3 libasound2t64

And to get vMix IO up and running:
Code:

sudo apt install unzip
sudo mkdir -p /opt/vmix-io && cd /opt/vmix-io
wget https://cdn.vmix.com/download/vMixIO-Linux-x64.zip
sudo unzip vMixIO-Linux-x64.zip
sudo chmod +x vMixIO
sudo ./vMixIO

I tested with a Decklink 8K and Decklink IP. For this the following steps are required:
Code:

sudo apt install build-essential dkms linux-headers-$(uname -r)
tar -xvf Blackmagic_Desktop_Video_Linux_*.tar
cd Blackmagic_Desktop_Video_Linux_*/deb/x86_64/
sudo dpkg -i desktopvideo_*_amd64.deb
sudo apt install -f

After this I was able to start vMix IO, define some Inputs and take the OMT feeds in vMix.
I was not able to test the Outputs because the Decklink cards require a UI/X-server and I'm running a headless (virtual) machine.

Testing with Linux Mint and SDI-connected camera via BMD Mini Monitor 4K (Didn't have a DUO2 or Quad2 on hand at the moment).

IO Input 1 shows up as 1080p29.97 regardless of the camera settings (1080p59.94, 1080p60).

Is this a feature or a bug or OE?

Hi,

When creating the input in the web interface, did you leave the format set to "Auto"?
If so, this will rely on the signal detection of the card itself, and on some older cards this may not be available.

If the input provides vMix IO with no signal detection, then you will need to manually specify the format when adding.

Regards,

Martin

That's what I thought as well. So I tried 1080p59.94 and the input reverted to 1080p29.97 after a second or two. Tried some other resolutions/frame rates with the same result.

I have a Duo2 arriving this weekend. I'll try it and report.
