Hello,
I have a program that generates an overlay (in a window, with transparent background), but I'm not able to get this "overlay" as an input in vMix.
I am still at version 21 of vMix (maybe that is the issue) and the only option is to add a desktop screencapture but that only works as I put that overlay on display 2 and then the background isn't transparant any more.
- Am I doing something wrong? - Is the newest version of vMix capable in what I want (others use OBS, but I prefer vMix)?

When I get a positive reply on how to do it I will definitely upgrade vMix ;-) I've read the vMix user guide about desktop capturing... but when I capture a window I only get a black screen, not what is in that window. User guide says maybe to change the capture method, but I can't find that option... Therefore I wanted to know if this is a limitation of the version I have or a new feature that is in a newer version!

I cant remember as of when but now one can capture (NDI/desktop capture) any open window/gui from within vMix

Is the transparent background integral to your show or can you just drop the layer to the bit you need to see?

The window that I want to use for overlay is constantly changing data that is shown. The rest of that window is transparent. It is specially made for that. In OBS it is possible, but I can't seem to get this windon as input in vMix.

Hi. Personally i would not be surprised if something "simple" in obs is difficult/needs workaround things in vmix. Im saying this because you mentioned obs. Other than this personally I can't understand what exactly you need to do. If possible post a screenshot with non personal details-infos on what you like to do, so we will see if possible in Vmix newer versions directly,by workaround or not at all.

Old: Windows 10 home New: Windows 11 Update !! Many tweaks have been incorportated in newer vMix releases to cope with Windows 11 quircks and NDI versions etc in last last 5-6 years.

Right and also from Vmix 27 if i remember well the default way screen capture has changed compared to previous versions. Also something weird i see here. What is the windows 11 version? Because as we allready know no Vmix version prior to vmix 25 (with the latest update) is capable to run on windows 11 latest (24h2) version. So i assume for to be able to run Vmix 21 the windows 11 version is 23H2. And without trying the same procedure noone can tell with 100% (maybe except the vmix team support) that the old process from Windows 10 even with the latest vmix version will run same way in the latest win(shit)dows version

As you can see the window on top has a transparent background... Added window as desktop capture... activated desktop capture as overlay... covers almost complete screen... I've played around with the "color key" option, but then some of the parts that I need will disappear also... must be something simple, but don't know what?

It seems to me you want to get rid of the black. Have you tried the luminance key to remove it.
