Errors with external microphones in iOS 17

Hello, since the Apple update to iOS 17, vMix-Call no longer recognizes external microphones.
We work with Rode Wireless Go 1 & 2.
Before the update you could select the Rode, after the update they are no longer recognized.
What can be done to fix this?

Error continues. Wonder if there is fix in the works?
It would be really nice to use Wireless Go with Vmix Call.

Same for us, although everything worked fine until a few weeks ago. Now, it only works with the built-in mic and Apple Airpods...

Same here, whatever we try. We use Boya BY-HM2 handmic's for live vmix caller standups or interviews - but we cannot get it to work anymore since iOS17. The Boya HM2 also has an headphone output - that does still work - but the mic, going into the iPhone, does not anymore (silence). Also tried different browsers, tried different settings, restarts, nothing...
Do the guys at VMIX have connections with Apple to discuss this issue?

Android phones (usb-c) DO work AND iPhone15 (usb-c) also DO work with the Boya HM2! (VMIX caller that is...)
So my best bet is that Apple was preparing the change to USB-C on their new iPhone15, and thus 'broke' it on the former Lightning iPhones... (support for 3rd party lightning-usb mics in browsers).
By the way, also tried the latest iOS update 17.5.1 - but that did not solve the lightning mic->browser issue. To be clear: the problem is only with iOS browsers (safari, chrome, etc), since other apps, including the iPhone camera app, still work fine with the Boya HM2.

I want to revive this thread and report on this issue. iOS 18 is out for a week and sadly the issue seems to persist!
I was NOT able to select our Rode Wireless GO II in Safari or Chrome on the vMix Call (Advanced). The Rode was connected by USB-C to an iPhone 16 Pro Max, same on the iPhone 15 Pro Max via USB-C.
This is a big issue for us as long as there is no native iOS app.

Year has passed since the first forum post and the issue continues. This is a really frustrating problem, can someone from Vmix team comment this, please?

They don't develop for Apple. They have a website that works within the constraints of the browser (and, by extension, the operating system) that opens it. If those are changed, what do you expect them to say or do about it? If it works on other websites within the same browser, that might be something for them to look into, but absolutely nobody has reported that.

I can't do it for them either. I haven't heard before that "well that's what happened" is an answer to these kind of situations.

You`re right but nowhere i have seen that vmix team says that vmix call is made to work with mobile phones and external microphone. If android 17 do a new security option like apple and dont let to use external mic, i have to blame google that not be able to work as before and not vmix call cause that cannot overcome a security option of the OS. This is also my "fear" for windows 11 and still stay to windows 10 because i cannot be sure (until MS decides what they will do,take for example the latest win 11 24H2 that broke the audio in vmix 26 but fortunatelly vmix team was able to overcome this with new update) that everything will run smooth and without problems Also i made a quick search (i use android only) for this -->ios 17/18 and external mic and seems that there some posts with this and apps generally but i dont see a really 100% solution. Maybe exist but i dont use iphone so i cant try myself and see the result

What software is that? Because my vMix works just fine. It sounds to me like you paid for a microphone that doesn't work. You should probably take that up with whomever you bought the microphone from. Originally Posted by: jelkk Usually software companies try to solve different problems like this. You're welcome to ask Apple to fix this for you. I wouldn't hold your breath, but you can ask. You still haven't said what you expect vMix to do about it, when they don't develop for Apple products and the only thing of theirs that runs on an Apple product is a platform agnostic website that's only limited by the browser and OS, neither of which they control. Originally Posted by: jelkk I haven't heard before that "well that's what happened" is an answer to these kind of situations. What exactly do you think the answer is? If it works on other websites within the same browser, that might be something for them to look into, but absolutely nobody has reported that. Also, I'd suggest you haven't been paying attention if you've never heard that as an answer before. When Twitter blocked API access, vMix didn't somehow force Elon to put it back. They just removed Twitter from vMix Social, because it doesn't work anymore & there's nothing they can do to change that.I'm sorry you don't like that answer, but that's how this works. The only thing vMix has control over is vMix. They have no ability to force Apple to allow Safari to do anything. This is admin post from three years ago, so basically they offer device selection. And iOS guests are supported. Basically external mic in browser would be really useful feature for using Vmix Call for field reporting, but of course it's possible that Apple has blocked it for some reason. External mics work fine with iOS camera apps, Teams, Slack etc. That's why I'm asking, if this is something Vmix team can affect.

Admin says "not availiable to all devices"... i would like also to have a dedicated app for vmix call but i dont think is going to happen. It didnt happened all these years and now from vmix 27 and up that has zoom support, personally i dont think they will do a mobile vmix call app un-fortunatelly. So i believe your best to use external mic, maybe is to move to zoom app whatever this means, because un-fortunatelly zoom is a subscription model. It is somehow "funny" that all these years stand-alone developers do things that teams of a paid program, dont do. For all programs this is true but if we take into vmix, for example i see that the free vdo.ninja has made an app for both android and ios and is based on Webrtc protocol and vmixcall with also webrtc and paid service, has not an app

Actually I got an official answer to this, and it basically was "use Android". :D I'll also check Zoom possibility when we upgrade to 27 at some point. Sounds promising... Thank you for the tip!

I'm sorry you don't understand how web development works. I'm not sure how much simpler I can make it for you. Unless you have evidence this works on other websites, which you don't, this has nothing to do with vMix. Websites don't have access to things that the browser and OS don't permit access to. There is nothing the web developer can do to change that. Period. Originally Posted by: jelkk This is admin post from three years ago, so basically they offer device selection.
They do offer device selection. What devices are available is a limitation of the browser and OS. Your complaint isn't that there's no ability to select devices, because there is. Here's a picture of it on my iPhone: You just don't like that Apple no longer allows external Lightning microphones to be visible to Safari for that purpose, and you somehow think that's vMix's problem. Originally Posted by: jelkk Actually I got an official answer to this, and it basically was "use Android". :D So, essentially, the same thing I told you multiple times: that it's an Apple limitation that they can't and won't be changing. What was that you said about "zero worth answers"? Do you feel better now that you've wasted a vMix employee's time just to be told the exact same thing I've been telling you (and that even 5 seconds of logical thinking could've gotten you to on your own)? I get that you're apparently not smart enough to have done the latter, but, when someone who is tells you something, you'd do well to actually listen, rather than argue with them.

I'm not sorry, because I'm not a web developer. Not my business to understand it. Originally Posted by: WaltG12

Wrong, external microphones have all the time been visible in Vmix Call device selection menu. You are right, I don't like it. But as a customer, I don't care about the stuff under the hood. If microphone is selectable, I expect it to work. I don't need to think if this is Apple or Vmix issue. The thing is, Vmix employee is a source I can trust. Some random wannabe big brain splaining on the internet is not, neither is my own logical thinking concerning the website or software I have not developed.

Which also means you have no business demanding explanations, like you did, or arguing with me when I tried to explain it to you multiple times. This being so far outside your wheelhouse that you couldn't even muster up common sense didn't stop you from running your mouth. Funny how it's now not your business. Originally Posted by: jelkk Wrong, external microphones have all the time been visible in Vmix Call device selection menu.
I'm glad you've admitted you outright lied about device selection not being possible as promised. Originally Posted by: jelkk I don't need to think if this is Apple or Vmix issue.
You do if you're going to go around demanding explanations from one of those 2 parties and complaining on their forums about how they never fixed an issue they have no control over. That's doubly true when you're going to argue with someone who tells you that you're complaining to the wrong people in the wrong place. If you don't trust people in the forums, then don't post in the forums. It's also really cute how you keep trying to pretend that I didn't give you the right answer from the beginning--the same one you got from vMix and the same one you claimed you've "never heard before".
