I usually use 3-4 mobile cameras sending (by teradek vidiu) rtmp streams. I need free rtmp server installed on my set with vMix to capture those streams on my public IP address and take them to vMix rtmp inputs, then mix with cameras and graphics and stream all to the world by CDN server.
I tried:
nimble - paid after 2 free weeks :(
nginx - can't find good tutorial to install, after week of tries I gived up
mistserver - working , but it is not installed 12 MB soft, Maybe I'm wrong but I'm not sure if it is stable. Have You good experience with it?

Maybe some other good rtmp server?

Or better, feature in vMix 19.1.0.0 ?

This is the one I use for easy stuff and tests at work/home on many computers from old to newer ones. Pretty basic but latest versions brought many improvements. I can't complain about reliability, needs a restart from time to time as many services. Works a little bit better on Linux tho. RTMP seems a little bit less accurate than MPEG/TS with MistServer.

For production I prefer Wowza obviously. But it's not free... That's the reference product for streaming platforms.

Whispering ;) I use Livestream Studio in such productions because it has internal rtmp server .
And this is why I desperatly look for something like this for vMix.

Did you try MistServer? For such things it should work perfectly well.

BTW Wowza is used a stand alone application on a dedicated server. I wouldn't install it on the same machine as vMix.

Sorry Zetor but I removed my previous post, I did say something wrong...

You will definately need to setup port forwarding on your router, but you still need a RTMP server.

OK, I will do a intense usage of mistserver, but I still count on Martin and Tim and.. 19.1.0.0 ;)

You must configure the vidius to stream to your public IP on your router with the stream name as a parameter like

rtmp://ipaddress:1935/live/key

Setup port forwarding for port 1935 to route incoming to your mist server on port 1935.

Mist will identify the origin encoder thanks to the key (for example vidiu1, vidiu2 etc...)

Yes, exactly as I do it in (whisper) LStudio ;) which is very stabil and reconnects quickly after break in rtmp signal from vidiu.

Now I made nginx rtmp server on Raspberry Pi on Debian, working well but I don't know how many streams it will transfer until burn , it has no cooler. Any experiences, vMixers?
And second, also important - when stream stops , on sender side, vMix gives information - stream error. But when transfer is active again vMix no reloads stream, I have to back to gear, change input and manually reload it. And I have no information, that stream is active again. Very difficult operation.

You can buy cooler fans for RPI.

Keep us posted if you do more tests. I'd like to know how many streams it will handle.

You can use commands like top or atop to monitor CPU, RAM usage.

IMHO I find it risky.

Another one to try: https://wmspanel.com/nimble/install#os_windows

I use nimble on linux servers in various parts of the world, because it's awesome, very efficient. Never used it on Windows, but I guess if it's awesome and efficient on linux there is no reason why it wouldn't be also awesome and efficient on Windows.

Suggest: Try Nimble. I was chasing lower latency and more streams per CPU core (so more viewers less cost). I ended up on Nimble. Wowza was good I used it for many years, Nimble for my needs is better. I found Nimble because I was using WMS Panel with Wowza to get accurate streaming statistics. It was free as I had a WMS Panel subscription already for Wowza. The rest is history for me.

My experience has been on Centos 7, so can't speak for all other operating systems.

Nimble is different to Wowza in many ways. It's WMSPanel collects all your viewer data and configures the Nimble server(s). The reports from WMSPanel are really effective at showing management the performance of a live stream or video on demand project. Tech support from both Nimbler and Wowza are excellent in my opinion. I've used support from both companies. Both respond well to the tickets/emails I lodge with them.

This report shows how much data they collect from various streaming servers (they offer statistics and control for many):

Thanks Speegs. I already tried Nimble 2 or 3 years ago. I agree it was a good solution and certainly is even better now but I like Wowza more and Mist is just perfect for daily usage or tests on my LAN where I just need RTMP ingestion points.

Thank You Guys, I agree that using server on RPi is too risky, even using 2 streams, but important streams..
I will try now nible again, by Your advice , it's no free ,but not so "heavy" as wowza if I would like to install and use it on the same machine as vMix.

Finally I made rtmp server, on virtual linux machine, nginx. After all I connected two streams from Teradek Vidiu by lane, and vMix connects every time itself. With no connecting problems. Every stream causes that the processor usage grows only 5-10%. I think it's stable and not too heavy.
But, I found one very big disadvantage in my favourite vMix :(
Quality of video from rtmp input in vMix is much , much worse than the same on VLC or Livestream Studio. Image is blurred, and moving is no smooth. I am very disapointed with this because I spend much time making this server, programming APC mini and the most it burned out my hope to start using vMix only in my streamings. RTMP inputs are important because we are making streamings from big marathons. Sorrow.

I wrote this some months ago in the feature request forum and got some support, but Martin told me at a expo meeting that he doesn't like the idea to use rtmp as a camera source protocol.
He prefers rtsp. I hope he will change his mind when more people support the idea.

Cheers

I don't know much of gears using rtsp protocol sending video from streets. I know, and bought vidius, cubes and bonds, and spend a lot of money, and me, and others , will use it very long. I believe that Martin knows that, and I still wait for upgrade of vMix 19 to 19.0.0.50 with rtmp server on board :)

But Cube and Bond deliver rtsp, Bond II mpeg-ts without extra license. Vidiu is the only device with rtmp only.
