Using an external audio mixer, In vmix am I able to add an individual input for each audio device plugged into the external mixer? I presume it's not possible and that all audio devices connected to the external mixer can only have a single input assigned in vmix, meaning that multi audio devices must be controlled from the external mixer.

Hi

it depends if your external mixer/soundcard has multiple channels. Some models connected with USB will give you x independent outputs that you can use as inputs in vMix.

It depends on the mixer and other items in your setup. If your external audio mixer has lots of outputs (eg groups or direct channel outs) and your PC has lots of audio inputs from a multi-channel sound card (or multiple soundcards, or maybe a USB mixer which appears as a multi-channel recording device), then you can add lots of separate audio inputs in vMix, each one taking a different external audio source. However, a typical "USB Mixer" only gives you a single stereo audio recording device in Windows, equivalent to the Main Output.

Many thanks guys, now it's clear. I have tried a Behringer Q1002 (usb) and also connected my Zoom H6 (line out). Of course only one channel appeared for each. Will need to think of an alternative mixer.

@ castfeeder

Apparently, the newer Behringer Xenyx UFX1204 has the ability, as discussed here:

Keep us posted!

The mixer has a integrated soundcard that can input every single channel on the mixer as vmix aufio device

Do your homework on the UFX1204. Reviews are mixed.
