Hi all
Looking for any help/advice you can give me on the Subject of Recording Formats, I work for a Badminton Company in ireland and we have decided to stream our matches live to our Members while also recording the games and uploading them to youtube. Our Current Set up Is three Usb HD web cams 2 Shotgun Mics fed into a mixer vMix Version 8.
we have ran some tests and everything is working with one problem, the output files we record are very large, over 5 gigs for a 40 min game. this obviously is causing difficulty as it takes a large amount of time to compress and upload them, Im not an expert in this area at all and was wondering if someone could give me some insight as to how i should configure the settings to produce a good quality recording with a smaller file size.
Thanks in advance
David

David, what file type are you recording? AVI, MPG or WMV ? One cool trick is to use Flash Media Encoder not only to stream but also save your file to hard drive in FLV format These files are very small i.e. if you stream at 500 kbps the saved file will be approx 1GB for 2 hours of video.

Im Using c920 logitech webcam and at the moment iv been recording in MPG as the file size is not as large as with Avi, i then edit it and export it for youtube, if you could explain how the Flash media encoder works with vMix and how id go about setting it up. what kind of quality would these Video Files Produce?
Thanks Again for the Quick Reply

if Vmix is open and the external button active then open FME and set video and audio to Vmix for sources. set your desired encoding bit rate say 800 kbps, set window size (I would match settings in Vmix) then on the right and side of FME de-select stream to URL and select save to box. you can press the browse button to choose a recording folder and give it a name. When you are ready click start and FME will start recording, When done click stop in FME.
