So i know the difference between the two, but i wanted to know if there is something behind the scenes that would make multicorder much more resource intensive than recorder?

vMix 18.0.0.61 x64

My test was 1 camera via SDI at 1080p and i set the recorder to the exact same codec as multicorder. So the video recorded had the same frame rate, codec, quality size and everything and the end result looked identical as well. However, if i just run the recorder the cpu is around 3% and if i just run the multicoder it's around 20%

just in case it matters i was using the MagicYUV 4:2:2 codec

i guess i'm just curious why the same recording of the same input is much more intensive on the multicoder than the recorder.

thanks

I'm not sure but I'd say that recorder is taking advantage of GPU's hardware encoder while multicorder cannot as GTX cannot handle more than 2 simultaneous encoding sessions.
Just a guess

Only you can answer your own question. It depends on so many things not only the hardware. Just test and find the limits
