Hi vMixers,
I'm currently looking for a MIDI controller for vMix and came over the new Maschine Jam by Native Instruments.
Watch introduction video of Maschine Jam here. And this is how it looks like.
Ideas on how I would like to use those buttons:
On the right top I'd asign the buttons "Song", "Step", "Pad Mode", "Clear" and "Duplicate" like:
[toggle] Song - [on/off] Fullscreen
[toggle] Step - [open/close] Save Window
[press] Pad Mode - [load] last preset/autosave
[toggle] Clear - [open/close] Statistics Window
[toggle] Duplicate - [lock/unlock] Controller
Under those 5 buttons there is a 4 button cross type layout. I'd use it for changeing the titles ("left" and "right"). To see if the text is the right one, simply press "up" and it will act as a Preview OverlayOn/Off toggle. To go live with the title, press "down".
The button below the cross (NOTE REPEAT) is for opening/closing the "Overlay Settings" Window.
To the right - also the main area - you have 10 by 8 colored buttonmatrix for all the crazy stuff like cut, merge, wipe... to the selected camera: Button 1 = PreviewCamera 1, Button 2 = PreviewCamera 2...
I think you can also find enought space for the 4 overlay channels. "A" to "H" buttons can toggle between the colored Input categories.
The Level section on the far top right would be great for the master audio monitoring. Under it there is a 2 by 2 matrix with MST, GRP, IN1 and a headphone symbol. I'd use them like:
[toggle] MST - [mute/unmute] Master Audio
[toggle] GRP - [open/close] Audio Setting Master (Cogweel) Window
[toggle] IN1 - [open/close] Audio Engine (i) Window
[toggle] headphone - [mute/unmute] Headphone Audio or [change] between headphone and master audio and use the knop under it for master volume.
[toggle] Browse - [open/close] Settings Window
The darker/black row has in my opinon the most complex but interesting keys.
[select] Macro - [crop, zoom with touch stribes] in Camera 1, 2, ... for max. times 1,5 (swipe up = zoom in, swipe down = zoom out)
[select] Level - [Volume up/down] of Camera 1, 2, ... (swipe up = Volume up, swipe down = Volume down)
[select] AUX - [Volume up/down] of Audio Inputs 1, 2, ... (swipe up = Volume up, swipe down = Volume down)
[select] Control + Cam 1, 2, ... [open/close] Input: Cam ... and Colour Adjust Menu Window. The first "swipe stripe" can affect the "Red" of that specific camera. The second one "Green" and the next one "Blue", "Saturation", "Black Stretch", "White Stretch" and "Alpha". The last one is free or there could be a combination between "Auto WB", "Auto Black White Stretch" or something like that.
[select] Auto + Cam 1, 2, ... [open/close] Input: Cam ... and Position Menu Window. The first "swipe stripe" can affect the Main "Zoom" of that specific camera. The secon one "Pan X" and the next one "Pan Y", "Rotate Z", "CropX1", "CropY1", "CropX2", "CropY2".
Things that would be awesome: see the Volume Level on the 11 led/get a visible feedback of your setting for color....
[select] Shift (is kinda like the default of the touch stripes): T-Bar for the Camera 1, 2, ...
Simply press on the touch stripe -> it'll load the camera to preview and by swiping up or down, you have a T-Bar.
I've also got some ideas for the button: Perform, Notes, Lock, Tune & Swing.
[toggle] Perform - [open/close] Recording Settings (Cogweel) Window
[toggle] Notes - [open/close] Settings of External Output / NDI (Cogweel) Window
[toggle] Lock - [open/close] Streaming Settings (Cogweel) Window
[toggle] Tune - [open/close] MultiCoder (Cogweel) Window
[toggle] Swing - [open/close] PlayList (Cogweel) Window
(for Replay you would use a different button, but this can be accived with another controller)
On the Mid-Bottom section you have the button: Play, Rec, < , > , Tempo, Grid, Solo and Mute:
[toggle] Play - [start/stop] streaming
[toggle] Rec - [start/stop] recording
[toggle] < - [start/stop] External
[toggle] > - [start/stop] Multicoder
[toggle] tempo - [pin/unpin] RePlay
[toggle] grid - [pin/unpin] Playlist Window
[toggle] solo - [pin/unpin] Audio Mixer Window
[toggle] mute - [lock/unlock] Play, Rec, < , > , Tempo, Grid, Solo
And with the last Button "Select" you can [open/close] the Add Input (Input Select) Window
This is just an idea on how I (if I were able to) would asign the buttons.
If you think I forgot something. Please let me know.
This device with a mouse woud be in my opinion best controller for vMix. (price ~400$/400€ on amazon)
