How did you make NDI make it possible to use NDI under 10mbps? Is there a way to adjust the bitrate or will it adjust automatically with the available bandwith?

There is no manual data rate adjustment for NDI. NDI is a variable bit rate and overall bandwidth depends on resolution, frame rate and video content. He was also working at 720p30, which would be a lower data rate than working at 1080i/p (which can peak at 100Mbits, but probably runs more in the 40 to 70Mbit range).

Personally, I would worry about a 10Mbit pipe for this, it might work at times, but I would want more headroom than that.

Another possible small bug

In multiview inputs, overlay 4 and 5 do not seem to preserve their Zoom setting from V16 pre-set files - specifically the X zoom - all my overlays were stretched out to their normalsize in the x direction ( i.e 1). However Main,1,2,3 appear to be fine.

Very odd

New vMix can't find classic Desktop Capture sources anymore? We used this one for low latency audio capture, old one were lower latency than NDI

General:

Multiview - Multiview within multiview only crops the original input

e.g. Input with .png bug as multiview 1 is set as multiview on input 2. Go to input 2 setting and crop its multiview overlay, does not crop the bug.

Other than that, love the new stuff!

PS: Tried NDI over VPN, 720p30 flawless, top notch quality at sub 10mbps one way.

Games can only be captured with the new desktop capture and only on Windows 8.1 or higher, not Windows 7.
Also the old desktop capture will not work anymore as the new NDI based one is better in pretty much every way including low latency.

For MultView you can only ever crop the original source inputs, you can't crop a "multiview" consisting of multiple elements.

I reduced resolution to keep the bandwidth down, correct (720p30 is almost 1/5th of a 1080p60 signal). It also were a static studio camera, if that helps. We were both on a 100/100mbit fibre internet connection, with him having 40/40 left after VPN due to bad route, he also recieved a return-signal from me.

Thanks for the tip about game capture by the way @Martin, will try it!

It looks like we will release the vMix 17 beta to the public this week, so .72 should be considered as a "release candidate".
So if you have any bugs to report please let us know in this thread.

It's been a much shorter beta this time around as we have been testing things internally for quite some time
(and done quite a few live shows with 17 already!) so hopefully 17 is good to go.

Hello.

If Start External Output is enabled in Settings->Options then vMix should not ask user to disconnect external output when a preset is loaded.

I asked this in the feature request thread but no response yet.

There seems to be another company who is making a NDI<->WAN Gateway, see the links here:

The "Check for updates on startup" (Settings --> About) does not appear to be working.

Did I missing something?

I think it's not activated for preview versions. Makes sense to me...

Thanks for the links mashynewie2.

I hope "coming soon" for NDI Relay really means that.

Hi everybody,

regarding Audio, new Channel Mixer (waited long time, thanks Martin!):
Running a Decklink Quad 2, can only get video&audio if I select "Decklink Quad (1)" from camera input drop down menu. It then defaults the audio source - which leads to only the first 2 channels.
If I select "Decklink Video Capture (1)", I can choose "Decklink Audio Capture (1)" for the audio and how many audio channels I want (1,2,4,8,16). But I get no audio at all.

Do I miss something?

Cheers

Jens

What are the minimum settings on the 'external' computer to be able to run the desktopcapture ?

crappy old laptop v16 DTcap no problem sending to vMix
trying out NDI but DTCap doesnt even want to run, no specific errors mentioned (ie stopt working message)

Thank you

Guy

As per this page:

http://www.vmix.com/ndi/

"Intel or AMD processor supporting SSE3 or higher (This includes nearly all i5 and i7 processors released since around 2005)"

If the cpu supports that try installing vMix Desktop Capture with the full vMix 17 install to see if maybe some extra dlls are needed.

Camera sources in vMix still only support 2 channel audio, including decklink, so you won't see more than 2 in the channel mixer.
For 17, the channel mixer was built for NDI sources that can have 16 channels of audio. It will eventually make its way to the camera inputs
but we decided it would be best not to mess with the audio there too much in this release.

was able to install vMix on it (not run it ) and desktopcature is able to run , tells me even there are connections but is just blak screen to choose from (Display1).

guess to old of a laptop

Would it be an option/possibility (suggestion) to be still able to run old type of screencapture (none NDI/NO video) or pointless ?
(often capture textinfo from other laptop at event, bit hard to tell them theirs is outdated or have to find out the hard way at last moment)

Good thought here Martin. I had the same issue as the others are reporting last night on our stadium production system. The source PC was a Dell i3. Desktop Capture would not work at first so I installed the NDI Tools as a sanity check, ran Scan Convertor which then asked to open a number of ports in the firewall. I opened both the intranet and Public ports. Immediately vMix recognised the PC and inputs. Now I re-ran vMix Desktop capture, which now asked again to open the ports (This had happened first time I tried to run it as well). I opened all ports and bingo. All good.

In most of my testing of NDI the black input screens and/or lack of NDI inputs usually come back to firewall issues. Also I turn on at least one of the NDI options on vMIx, and reboot the computer to ensure that vMix is receiving NDI input before attempting to bring in other sources.

The NDI Tools- Test Patterns is a great tool to ensure that the source computer is transmitting. It sends both video and audio streams.

Mathijs,

Sorry I had to edit your post as the information provided is incorrect.
SSE3 is all that is needed. AVX is only needed for some of the NewTek NDI apps, but as far as NDI in vMix is concerned SSE3 is all you will need.

Thought these links might help the discussion:
