This was reported from a customer this morning. Any ideas?

vMix 16 behaves just fine until I add a video file or DVD player as an input. Once added, the monitor begins to flicker, sometimes even before the source is played. Ironically, the video file that is included with Windows as a sample really goes berserk when you select audio as well. The flicker is more like an overall flash of the whole display. It blinks on and off as if someone is rapidly turning the power switch on and off. Once I close vMix, all returns to normal. The PC is fine running these same sources through other players. Like I said, rock
solid.

Thank you for your input.

Hi Tom,

Here are my PC specs:

Windows 7/64bit

MOBO: Asus P6X58D-E
CPU: Processor Intel Core i7 950 @ 3.07GHz, 3068 Mhz
RAM: Patriot 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 X2 = 16GB
GPU: Asus GT760, 2GB on board
HD: 1TB 7600

I just tried 2 different video formats in vMix the first was a .mpg and the second was a .mp4 both at 1920 x 1080 resolution and both worked with no problems I also tried a DVD and again no problems playing that to.

What video format is your customer using and could there be something running in the background that could be causing the monitor to flash? and also what is the CPU usage when playing videos?

Len

Thanks for your reply. Everything works okay for me, too.

He is using the sample video, Wildlife.wmv, that comes with Windows 7.

Nothing is running in the background that I know of.

I'll check on CPU usage. Good idea.

Hi Tom,

I have seen this before with believe it or not a faulty HDMI cable or loose connection as the culprit.
When there is lots of movement on screen a low HDMI signal can fail causing the screen to flicker which looks similar to what happens when unplugging/pluggin in the cable.

Regards,

Martin

But from Tom's original post, this appears to be an 'Internal' playback of a video from the hard drive and/or (I assume) a connection to the PC's DVD drive, no mention of an 'External' HDMI connection, so I suspect something is amiss.

The flashing occurs on the main monitor only when a video is being played in vMix with a DVD as the source or a video file on the SSD as a source.

The flashing does not occur when the is being played with Windows Media Center from either the DVD or a file on the SSD.

Main monitor is connected to the PC via HDMI.

Hi Tom,

vMix uses the GPU much more heavily then say media center, VLC etc so it is still a good idea to check the cable and/or try a different monitor.

Thanks Guys. Will do. Working with an out-of-town client, so things are proceeding slowly.
