hey , Vmix users ,
DO NOT USE , EVER , THE USB3 XCAPTURE from Micomsoft .

we're experiencing something we never had before .
other users of various streaming softwares have experienced that before us .
I had made a lot of researches about that capture card , without finding much about it .
i only knew it worked very well for us .
so i bought it .

in order to know a little more about this ,
you simply have to google "XCAPTURE" and "CPU 100%" .
and you discover the nightmare !

its shitty driver takes control on energy saving settings ,
and , badly doing it , ends making the CPU charge increase to 100%.

to clear this , you have to "Restore default settings" of your "current power plan" .

i think the first guy who finally found that solution ,
must have spent some horrible moments .

so , obviously ,
our 100% CPU charge has to be linked with that .
My friend's computer went mad , keeping a 100% cpu charge , even after several reboots , and without capture cards connected !!!!!

right now , i put advices about this , on this thread ,
each time i mention this capture card .

i'm so sorry for that mess !

to be continued ....

Matthieu

any suggestion on another pci based SDI video out , that would go 1080p60fps ?

Pricy ones, but... AJA Kona 4 or AJA Kona 3g

Just add another video card, if it fits in your motherboard. Will output to 60fps without issue :)
thanks 1 user thanked Speegs for this useful post.

I might sound like a broken record, but Magewell for great Capture :) I feel your pain been in similar not the same position with BM gear constantly frustrating me with GoPros. So much time wasted and it was all to save a few dollars on the price difference between a BM Mini Recorder and a Magewell capture device.

Magewell promises on the website exactly what it delivers. It's chinese and difficult to get in Australia I had to import them myself with no distributor here, but don't put it in the cheaper inferior clone category that yes so much "unknown" chinese equipment would be associated with.

Try a single USB Magewell out first. Then as you gain confidence and have tried it, buy more. Seems you are trying to build the "perfect" setup without doing too much trial and error. Going to the forums to avoid making mistakes is wise, but not sure if everyone here does game capture. I don't, so my experience is on tricky camera and computer screen capture at different frame rates and resolutions.

I did a bunch of trial and error, made some errors and one of my weapons in capture is Magewell for capture, I can honestly say I recommend because I use and have had excellent experiences with every product I have. (1 x 4 HDMI PCIe Card, 1 x 4 SDI PCIe Card, 3 x HDMI USB Capture Dongles Plastic model, 2 x SDI USB Capture Dongles one plastic, one metal). 7 products total, no regrets, no returns and most are out of warranty now. Magewell for me has been hassle free except for importing the product through customs takes a while.

we have chosen to buy a quad sdi magewell .
this brand is widely loved on this forum .

we 'll keep on using , to , our PCIE xcapture , (as only the USB3 one causes those problems) .
we bought it 2 years ago , we already have it .
as we'll probably be on windows 10 , we won't use my USB3 x-capture .
drivers had been updated for win 7 and 8 , not yet for win 10 .
i'll use it , on another computer win7 based (had no problems with it last month , when last used it) .

trial and error , that's exactly what we just did today .

adding a graphic card , in order to get it as an " external " available set of 2outputs ,
should achieve what we're needing .
to get SDI out , if needed , we'll simply use a converter .

our budget is correct , but doesn't allow us everything .
so, this final info , regarding the second gpu ,
surely will lead us to go with a quad sdi magewell capture , probably the gigabyte GTX 980 ti , and some (i don't know yet which) Nvidia dual outputs second GPU .
if ever , we face other problems with our PCIE X-capture , we'll probably go for another magewell , single channel .

Things now appear much clearer to me ,
thanks to your helpfull answers .

It is much appreciated ,
and i apologize , all this may start to be a little confusing .
as a PC beginner , i miss some obvious knowledges , they are the reason for this thread .
to me , it is quite less confusing now ,

thanks to you all ,

Matthieu

No need to apologize the forum is to help people get the most out of Vmix :)

I'm sure your questions help someone else reading this struggling with the similar decisions to make. It can be confusing for sure. I guess that is why they have pre-built systems now and a good choice for many people as well.
