It would be nice to be able to assign the headphone (solo) audio bus to an output, for remote monitoring for instance.

In the audio output settings you are able to set a different audio device for the monitor already. I recommend doing so.

What I'm trying to achieve is that I can, for example, create an SDI output with multiviewer video AND monitor audio. This is not possible with your suggestion.

In that case you can use a bus as a monitor pseudo. In the outputs you can set that bus. Create a shortcut that adds the source to the monitoring bus and you should be set.
