What recording format are you using AVI or MPEG?
What have you selected as the "Audio Format" in the recording setup window?

If the Recording tab is blank under the Mixer when recording it means an audio device was not correctly selected in the Recording Setup window.
Try:

1. Make sure no other program is using the Stereo Mix option.
2. Change the Audio Format to 44100 16 Bit 2 Channels instead
3. Try the AVI format option
4. Make sure speakers or headphones are plugged in to the computer and are working (you can hear audio) throughout the entire recording.

By utilizing an audio source other than the stream associated with the camera's hdmi output IE the camera's analogue audio out to line in on the computer's sound card I've finally recorded an mpeg2 file containg both audio and video so progress indeed
