Many times I will use vMix Call to connect to a studio just to simply listen in and watch the video of a live production while I produce notes for a production. And most of the time I don't even have a webcam connected to my computer. Usually this is no problem since I also have vMix installed on my PC and Chrome sees "vMix Video External 2" as the camera with color bars, allowing for vMix Call to successfully make a connection.

However beginning with Chrome version 78, and now 79, this no longer works. Chrome no longer see "vMix Video External 2" as a working camera, and thus does not successfully connect.

If I uninstall Chrome, then install Chrome 76, this all works again.

Any idea what's going on and how to fix this so I don't have to plug a webcam in?

Appears to be working fine for me. Latest release of vMix and Chrome, using 8x8 free video conference tool, which is webrtc based.

vMix admin posted an update a few days ago and mentioned the following notes; I wonder if it applies to your situation? If yes, maybe try to update your version of vMix to the latest version?

23.0.0.32

* Added workaround for Google Chrome update causing vMix Video device to no longer work.
* Fixed FMLE no longer working as the streaming application.
* Updated vMix Desktop Capture to 23.0.0.2 with fix for old CPUs without AVX support.

Oh shucks, just found this thread. Been trying to figure this out since last Friday (12/13), Chrome will not connect to vMix Video device anymore (worked 12/12 and before).

We are on 21.0.0.61.

For now, I had switched to Firefox for the time being. Do want Chrome to work. Cleared all cache/history, reset permissions, even uninstalled / reinstalled Chrome. No go.

I wonder if it has to do with that Chrome 79 bug. Has the admin posted specifics?

I've resorted to just using the NewTek virtual cam to feed a blank screen to Chrome.

This vMix Knowledge Base article may be somewhat related and might be of assistance to anyone having issues with vMix as a virtual camera in Chrome:
