I tried substituting the input name instead of the input number in the web api and it worked sporadically. Sometimes it would work and others it would not.
Is it supposed to work with the name given to the input?
I've also used Preview as the input, and it worked about as often. Active work less often. I renamed my audio input to Alesis, and it wouldn't work at all. It would only work when the input was = 1.
If this is intended operation, then perhaps a bug? If not, it must be a fluke that it worked at all.
I don't recall reading anywhere that you could use a name, but just thought I'd give it a try.

If the input number cannot be found or is blank it will default to Preview which is probably what you were seeing. Only input numbers or the key (GUID) can be used to select an input, the unique key can be found from the API XML page. http://localhost:8088/API/The help file contains some more detailed information: http://www.vmix.com.au/help12/DeveloperAPI.htmlRegards, Martin vMix

Great & thanks! I will look into that.
My concern is if I move an input that my api references would no longer be valid.
I would like to formally request using the input name though for better identification. Input placement would no longer be a factor, and it would be much more descriptive in the app send the functions. Just spelling. ;) not to mention this GUID number is harder to locate, and much less descriptive.
When reviewing an external playlist, it may be more naturally read, and understood, than it would be with numbered inputs, or cryptic GUID information.
Thanks for listening, your excellent support, and last, but not least, vMix!
