Has anyone used the Kona Hdmi capture card in an external TB3 enclosure yet? any pros / cons / advice

I am very new to this streaming game and am trying to run a simple, well what I perceive
a simple set-up and am failing.

I have tried two U-Taps and vMix does not like that / or my laptop does not, they keep getting
kicked off / disconnected. After some discussion it seems my laptop usb 3.0 can not handle the
U-Taps, hell even when I run 1 it gets kicked off.

So the new plan is to run the Kona Hdmi capture card, in a TB3 external enclosure, into laptop Helios 500
Vmix software and that should in my understanding enable multi camera live streaming and very few hiccups.

any advice would be appreciated, I feel like I'm spinning down a rabbit hole

I've not used the Kona card but I have used an external Zotac TB3 box with another Quad HDMI card and the performance appeared to be the same as having the card installed in a PCIe slot on a desktop motherboard. Plus this particular TB3 box has a USB3 host controller+ports as well, so I tried running a USB3 capture device alongside the quad card. I didn't do a multi-hour "soak test", so I can't confirm long-form stability, but as far as it went I was getting clean video simultaneously from both types of source. YMMV with your specific computer.

The simple answer is that I'm a Magewell reseller so have a variety of their products to hand.

I've used a Kona 3G with a Sonnet Echo Express Thunderbolt 2 enclosure. Everything worked well and as expected (until the Win 1083 update, then everything got buggy). Also have used a Magewell Pro Capture Quad with a Sonnet Thunderbolt 3 enclosure. No issues.

Depending on your laptop there shouldn't be an issue with a Kona 3G and a TB3 enclosure.

I never noticed that. Just plugged mine in, it's quiet. Now if the capture card has a fan that is noisy, that will be a problem.

The two Sonnet Echo boxes I've worked with haven't had any noise issues.
