Timecode in vMix Video clips can be achieved using a video editing application that can export audio in the 5.0 specification. The QuickTime codec for export in both OSX and Windows can accomplish this task. The settings below will get you started. In this scenario, I have tracks 1 & 2 with a stereo music clip, track 3 has pre-recorded voice cues and track 4 timecode starting at 00:00:00:00.
Tip: You can download customized timecode *.wav files generated by a web application online, with your specific needs in mind. Frame rate, Timecode start time, duration and sampling rate:
http://elteesee.pehrhovey.net/Tip: Make sure your editing software is set-up to output four output channels, and map those timeline audio tracks 1-4 accordingly. Most editing systems default to stereo, two channel output and export.
Import the rendered exported video clip back into the editing system to verify that you indeed have the five audio tracks, and the audio tracks are correctly assigned in the order with the original soundtracks you desired.
The next step is to create a new Input and add the video clip to vMix. Open the Audio settings for the video clip and select Channel Mixer. Upon playing the video clip, you should see all the audio tracks compiled from the edit session. In this image, I have four audio tracks.
Now we set-up the Channel Matrix. This will send the audio tracks to their destination hardware or NDI output.
In this example, audio tracks 1 & 2 are sent to the Master output and the Headphones. Track 3 (audio cues) and track 4 (timecode) are sent to Bus A (left & right).
Now Bus A with the pre-recorded voice cues (3) and timecode (4) can be sent to several destinations depending on your hardware set-up. Possibilities: External 2 with a SDI de-embedder to extract the audio channels; a secondary sound card (internal or low latency USB audio device), via NDI to a destination workstation or laptop to extract the audio tracks, or even a Timecode to Midi Timecode converter. Further, there are software applications that can convert Timecode to Midi Timecode should this be a requirement.
