For several weeks we've been having a problem with recording in vMix. I thought the operators were hitting the space bar or somehow not actually starting the recording.

Here's the scenario:

We have vMix Basic HD set up with two inputs; A desktop Capture of a presentation machine, and a Fixed camera to record a sermon each Sunday morning.

We decided to record in MPEG as a balance between editability and file size.

We have also decided to record our music to video so the worship leaders can review how the service went.

SO, at the beginning of service, I press Start to record worship for about 25 minutes.

At the end of worship I press Stop, wait a few minutes for some announcements and then press Start again.

I see the rec light in the program screen and the Start button is pressed, but I got no recording. I have a file about 130MB that is not video, but shows as though I was recording.

Help!?!

Thanks

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Each time a recording is made a log file is created in the same folder.
Could you post the contents of the log file for the recording file that failed?

Thanks,

Martin

Then I tried the same procedure several times in a row recording only five to ten seconds at a time with no problem.

then I repeated the SAME procedure, being very diligent to make sure the recording was actually going and I had success. I'm not sure what I did wrong the first time, but two different operators before me in the last three weeks have had the same problem and we ended up with no recording.

We will try to be more careful, but something simple is escaping our attention and we are trying to be sure the rec light is ON and we are pressing the Start button.

Hi,

Are you using vMix 64bit or 32bit?
If 32bit you may be running into a memory limit, how many inputs are you using?

Regards,

Martin

64-bit in Win7, Pro, with 16Gig of Ram.

Two inputs, only. One Intensity Pro card with HDMI in and one desktop capture input from a graphics machine.

Any status on this investigation? We seem to be able to get good recordings, but we have to watch very closely when we select Start after the first recording or we may lose a whole service, because vMix says it's recording, but it's not actually recording.

Thanks

Can you double check it says x64 in the vMix title bar? Just want to make sure you are not running the 32bit version of vMix.

Thanks,

Martin

Couple of other things that will be helpful in tracking down the problem:

1. Are you recording to MPG or TS?
2. Is it possible to send us a copy of the 130MB file that is broken?
You can upload it to https://fileobject.com/ and email it to us (see vMix web site about page for email)
3. In vMix Settings click Export and send us that file as well.

Thanks,

Martin

Sorry I missed a week of communication and we had the same problem again this weekend. I will send the resulting 148MB file. I'm sure we're starting the 64-but version from the icon on the desktop. I will confirm that it is indeed the 64-bit versi on running.

The operator records worship music for about. 25 minutes in .TS format. Then stops recording for three to five minutes and starts a new file in .TS format for the sermon, the program shows a red record indicator, but no file is made. I'm not certain, but it don't think the time numbers are incrementing during that bad record too. That was my hint when it happened to me a couple weeks ago.

To what address should I send the bad record file and the log file?

Thank you

Jeremy

I've just emailed through some settings that should be changed.
The key setting is the Recording Memory Buffer under Settings -> Recording
This should be set to 10 for MPEG-2 recordings.

Hi Jeremy,

I have found another bug that can cause empty MPEG-2 recordings and posted the fix below:
http://forums.vmix.com.a...osts&m=6474#post6474

Please try it out and let me know if it fixes your issue.

Martin

I also have problems with recording. The only thing that works good is to record in.
AVI Pal system : 50 or 25 Size 1920 x 1080 DV Video Encodar .

Audio: Vmix Audio - System Mix. Audio Format : 44100 Hz 16 bit 2 Channels .
Audio Delay : 0 milliseconds.
Restart everytime : Non .

I can record in MPEG2 with the sound is not as it should and seems to go too fast or giving not good quality.

There is absolutely no record in WMV or MP4 neither NTSC or PAL recording Stops after a few seconds and I can not click on the stop and it does not matter how many times I click . Video playing driving on as normal with everything else is frozen.

I have to click on the control / del / alt and click on cancel several times to close the vmix . I have tried different settings but it does not help. I run with Windows 7 32 bit. Vmix works very well with the recording in AVI and I really like Vmix , but the drawback is that the file is so huge at a live recording, which lasts one hour.

Please make sure you are using the latest version of vMix and you are using "vMix Audio" as the audio source, not "vMix Audio - System Mix"
