Hi,

last week I experienced a big problem with vMix Pro 24.0.0.72.
I ran a show with active recorder, one active stream and an active multicorder for 3 input capture channels. All running 1080p50.

I messed up my multicorder settings a little bit, so the 1TB SSD that was only used for the multicorder (recorder had another disc) ran out of space after a few hours.

In itself this wouldn't be a problem, but the error message reappeared every few seconds, making VMix unusable.

I've recorded a 'screen capture' of the problem, you can find it here hidden on youtube:
Youtube video of the problem

Please excuse the cruel video, I was a little bit stressed so I used my mobile phone.

It constantly opens new popups with messages like "There is not enough space left on disk" (both in german and in english), "recording has stopped unexpectedly" and "could not start/stop multicorder" and so on.
I tried to stop the multicorder with the button in the bottom row, but it did not stop. I held enter to cancel all the error messages and managed to open the multicorder options, but the stop button did not work.

Also I tried to free disk space by moving the big files to another disk, but this failed because vMix had the file still opened. Windows could not move /delete the file because of this.

It wasn't possible for me to stop the multicorder, so I had to restart vMix during the show, stopping my livestream and the still working recorder for ~30s. Of course this is not really acceptable for a professional production.

Additional to that the force quit of vMix broke the recorded file (.mp4), but I managed to repair this file.

Has someone else experienced this problem? Maybe there is a workaround that I didn't know of?

In any case in my opinion this is a problem that needs investigation by the developers.

Just ask if I can provide more informations.

Greetings
Dragon

Hi,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Did you happen to have the lock button in vMix enabled?
This issue seems to only occur if the lock button is enabled and the system runs out of space as then
vMix can't stop the recordings.

If so we will get this fixed in the next update.

Regards,

Martin

Hi,

thank you for your quick reply.

I'm not 100% sure if I had the lock button enabled, it's very hard to see on the recording.
But I don't think it was enabled, I can not see the golden lock symbol in the youtube video (but it would be hard to see).

At 0:10 in the video you can see that I clicked the "Multicorder" button and it opend a dialog "Stop MultiCorder? Yes / No".
I just tried the lock button, with the lock enabled. If it's enabled it doesn't show this dialog, so I guess the lock button was disabled.

Greetings,
Torben

Please contact us below and send a support report when prompted on the page:

https://www.vmix.com/contact-us.aspx

This will shed light on the sequence of events that lead to multicorder not being able to stop.
Best guess is the drive had 0 bytes free making it impossible to close the files properly.
This may have been solveable by freeing up space manually on the drive.

Martin

I was just able to replicate a scenario where zero disk space means the files cannot be closed.
Freeing up some disk space allows the recording to stop and the error no longer appearing over and over.

We could configure vMix to simply abandon finalising the files in this instance, but then the recordings
would become corrupt.

In any case we can increase the disk space check to a higher size to prevent reaching this point.

Thank you for the quick analysis Martin.

I assume you don't need any more input from my side?
Your discovery makes sense, it's very likely that it had 0 bytes left.

I agree, it would be good to have a logic to stop the multicorder and finish the files if space on disc < 4* size needed to finish the file or somethink similar.

Nevertheless if it should happen, the error message should be shown once (or maybe twice, first time with the choise like "continue write" and "abort file").

Furthermore I would like to add one suggestion: Would it be possible to have a warning ~5 Minutes before running out of disk space? That could save some trouble.

Best Regards
Torben
