Hi there,

I've been filming live sports and usually use a Netgear Nighthawk over Ethernet (on the Telstra (Australian telco) 4g network). However, the last few weeks it's been unreliable and cutting out up to 2/3 times a half!

I've lowered the bandwidth as low as I can afford (down to 720 2.5mpbs) and it's still not 100% reliable.

So, I'm looking at a solution where I plug my mobile phone (which is on the Optus 4g network) in over USB and tether that to my device as a 'backup' internet connection.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible to have two connections on the 1 laptop, so if one dies, the stream will carry on?

Thanks!

Odds are, you have a backup internet connection in your pocket. On your phone or 4G/LTE equipped tablet, you already have an internet connection that's To enable it, open Settings, select the Personal Hotspot option near the a USB cellular dongle or want to share your wired Ethernet connection.

Hi there. Yes, I have both my phone (usb) tethered, and nighthawk connected - windows shows me 2 connections in the task-bar - but when I disconnect one, the stream dies. It doesn't automatically use the other connection.

any ideas?

Is there a third adapter in there that might be higher in the priority order?

I'm not an expert on networking by any means, so I don't know whether Windows is capable of maintaining a connection when switching between adapters. For a redundant setup, I think you need to look in to 'connection bonding' which some routers support. That way you can connect the router to a fibre connection and a 4G connection and let the router handle the failover from one to the other. I've done a crash-test of this at work - unplugging the fibre cable in the middle of a vMix call - and the incoming call & outgoing stream connections weren't dropped.

I use Speedify to combine multiple connections, you can select priority's, and have an eye on the amount of data. Worked for me so far!

You use Speedify with vmix calls?
Do you have delays on connections? I use at least 6 vmix calls in my Q&A and I'm curios how works with Speedify... !?

I use Speedify with 2-3 LTE USB modems and 100% reliability.
