As I've been informed in the past, you may receive greater resolution sources from participants using vMixCall through vMix than through their web browser. A browser typically maxes out at 720p, and various browsers have different hoops through which to jump to change webcam and mic options, making troubleshooting with less-technical clients problematic.

My proposal is that you produce a small-footprint client app that contains only the codebase required to:
  • select camera source,
  • select mic,
  • preview their video,
  • view the return video,
  • chat with the host, and
  • enter Name and Password for the vMixCall session.
  • Ideally, with this subset of functionality, it would be a multi-platform offering, as Macs have needs, too.

I'd be willing to pay a small fee for the right to send this to clients so they can be better presented to the world. Its limited application still requires that the destination has a full version of vMix to host the call.

I hope this makes sense.

Best,

Chad

May I add that this app should be able to run without installation. More like a portable app. And it should not required administrative rights. In bigger companies admin rights are very hard to get.

To transfer even 4k video over WAN take a look at medialooks solutions. It works as advertised.

I agree with the desire for some sort of client app for vMixCall.
It's not uncommon for users to have trouble selecting the correct video and audio devices.

It's clearly a problem with the browsers, but never the less it becomes an issue in relation to vMixCall.

I do not wish a replacement for the browser based client, but a supplemental client that offers some simplicity to the end users.

Besides offering easier device selection, it could also add a few additional enhancements to the webclient like:
- Support for HVEC encoding and SRT transport (Maybe even with support for talkback?)
- Latency & bandwidth analysis
- Desktop/screen capture.
Preferably remote switchable, so producer can switch between webcam and desktop (maybe both in the same SRT - received as two different inputs)

Stay healthy,

As much as I love this idea, and would pay significantly for it, it seems like a huge ask. I wonder if an interim solution might be a stripped-down version of Vmix that:

1. Focuses on Vmix Call’s “join a call” functionally (using a similar interface)
2. Allows the creation of an application/window share
3. Is remote-controllable by the call’s host (me) in the same way Vmix call is now AND source selection (camera/shared app/window) and sending format (720/1080 and bandwidth for each source?)

Thoughts?

I think the key is to stay browser based. Not all users have admin permission to install something.

Yes add Select sources & outputs
Here is example with section list
https://webrtc.github.io...nt/devices/input-output/

Just move that controls to vmix host gui.

WebRTC Support for HEVC & VP9 (in hardware) is now almost available across all the major browsers, see this for more info;
http://webrtcbydralex.co...webrtc-done-well-almost/

Once these updates hit mainstream browsers adding them to vMix Call becomes a lot easier.

Easier input device selection is already a feature available in the underling tech and 'just' needs to exposed to the client GUI.
Talkback (Additional channels/tracks) is already a feature of WebRTC. You could enable selection of the channels on the audio bus to be sent or received selectively.
on the topic of tracks, RTCPeerConnection.addTrack() (Not support in internet explorer mind you) could add an additional video track to the connection for desktop capture.

I’d be willing to pay additional for this. Particularly 1080p vMix to VMix like capability in a stand-alone vMixCall app.

I already have a client willing to pay for multipel basic vMIxHD licenses to get 1080p remote capability, but having clients look at the vMix interface sucks. It makes no sense and just entices them to click on something and screw it up.

The web client is beautiful. Especiall the Advances with the ability for the client to click the gear and access camera selection. That simplifies a lot.

But what I CAN do with remote control of a remote vMix app send is I can adjust the sender's audio before it's sent.
I can go into the webcam input's settings and drill down to the settings of the webcam itself so I can turn auto white OFF, autofocus OFF, dial up some sharpness, etc. And make it look better than it does when on auto, and constantly trying ot adjust for every movement of the person on camera. That just screams amateur hour.

To have a remote app that enables a 1080p send, AND remote control of the camera settings would save me a lot of hair pulling.

This is all possible with the medialooks VT products. This could buy you some time until/if Martin comes up with something in that direction.

Big-big +1 for this. Yes, we know its available from Medialooks, but I don't want to use anything from Medialooks, because its overpriced (IMHO). And don't forget about the integration, the best way is if its works inside of VMIX. And last but not least I would like to pay VMIX team, not another company.
