We've been using 4 older Sony BRC-300 PTZ cameras with no issues. PC took a lightening hit and now I need to re-enter encoder settings. Our previous settings gave us a 4:3 resolution with a black bar left and right which is exactly what these cameras output. I cannot remember what settings we had for those PTZ's. Any wide screen setting gives us a stretched video that is very unflattering to the folks on camera. Would I be looking at 720x480 or something else?

640x480 is a 4:3 resolution, so would 800x600. Try those two first. You can always take a look at 720x480 as your setting, but it isn't a 4:3 resolution. If 720x480 gives your screen shots the format look of what you previously had, then use it.
The Sony BRC-300 is suppose to be capable of both 4:3, and 16:9 modes.

Thanks for responding. Yes, the BRC-300 can do both 4:3 and 16:9 but the Roland VR-3 mixer/switcher we are using only outputs 4:3. I will try 640x480 and 800x600 and see if that works for us.

I did a test steam using 640x480. Looks like that is the answer. Thanks. One day we will be able to upgrade to SDI or HD.

Good to see you found a setting that works. Having used the Roland VR-3 in the past, I know 720x480 is the preferred resolution for that unit. Did you give that resolution a try?
