Good quality sound via vMix Call.

Hi, everybody!
I am new to this forum but have good experience in live streaming of classic music tv shows with very good sound on the Internet.
In current Covid situation we are making a season of classic music from home captured with mobile phones and aired via YouTube and other platforms. We use a free streaming app on Android phones to connect with YouTube and are quite happy with sound results.
We now plan a live show with music from various musicians switched one after the other by vMix and the simplest way to connect we consider is via vMix Calls. We are not interested in the return channels - we may use phones for that - but need best sound.
All our trials with vMix call have rendered bad music sound, although the vMix settings were standard, with no compression and Internet quality was high, with many 10s of Mps available in both directions. Could our Chrome browser impose automatically adjusted volume?
Can anyone help us get rid of this sound nuisance with vMix Call and obtain a sound from caller to HQ as good as the mic of the Android phone can pick? With no automatic adjustment of volume? Some of our ”callers” who are professional musicians may connect quality condenser mics with preamps via TRRS cables to the phones, but then to have sound badly treated would make our choice a nonsense.
Please help, thks in advance.

Hello!
I am in the same boat.
I have been doing some tests to do a music vmix call. With new v23 versions bitrate increased from around 30-40kbits to 60-70kbits which is a good improvement in quality.
The problem I think we are facing is some kind of noise cancelling or echo reduction processing being done in the audio transmission. They way high and low freqs gets filtered sounds to me like those filters, famous in meet soft like good meet, zoom, skype, etc.
I have been researching about fixing this with a flag in Chrome and Firefox with no luck. The only info I have found is with code in the client, so maybe vMix client could do something to disable audio processing in the webrtc call.
Thanks for your time reading!

The perfect fit for this setup would be the larix broadcaster app (free) in combination with the SRT protocol. You can send up to 160 kbps there. And mobile devices have a good camera these days as well. You may want to use some chat apps to communicate then.

Hi, everybody!
I think vMix call is and should remain what the name says: a CALL. You make it instantly, if necessary, and for sending voice and some kind of image it is allright.
For quality streaming video with music to vMix by phone the solution with an app such as Larix Broadcast and SRT should be fine. I have been testing it for a short while - I need to install W10, I am still using W7 - but had problems with my phone (!) which behaved unstable, as opposed to other terminals which worked fine from moment one.
I have been using Larix for some time in doing live concerts captured with phone and streamed to Youtube or other streaming platforms. Sound and vision may be finetuned by comprehensive menu and they do come allright from most phones given the circumstances and can be much better if a good quality mike - condenser - is connected to the phone via a special preamp with TRRS jack output.
I will make more tests and make a brief report here, we will not go to concerts in halls again soon, it seems.
Thank you for your time,
Mihai Hristu

As Mavic stated SRT is the solution. I think the Basic HD Version of Vmix can take up to 4 SRT Inputs, you always can let call in another, when a session is over and the next is onair. For the sound you can use a iRig XLR adapter. The adapter is under 30€ and works well. Possible, that one of your musicians already has one of them. The only thing you have to take care of is to open ports in your router (portforwarding INBOUND UDP to your internal IP of your vMix computer (for example, port 1930 -1935) post the link, if your show goes onair. a bit of good music is exactly what we need in this times. stay safe

Thanks for responses. Yes indeed there are workarounds to send or receive audio, but not to do a radio program remotely for example, because the other musician could not be able to receive master audio so you cant talk.
With that said, this is a proposal por enhacement in my opinion, for us to be able to do something great that its not possible now. If vmix client is able to disable processing, then there will be another feature with it! Just another option like ones we have now to tune guest bandwidth, adding one to disable noise/echo reduction processing would fix this! :-)

On May 1st we make a Concert for Astronomy to celebrate the Astronomy Month which is April. I will post the link here but will not make it with xMix as I have to first install W10, I am a conservative persona nd have w& which is very good, but becomes obsolete with enw software. Kind regards, Mihai Hristu

Hi.
I have a possible simple solution. I tried installing vmix on the remote computer where they play the music (they would usually have opened the vmixcall link in chrome). Then I setup a new source in their vmix selecting "video call" (i.e. like you would when setting up a new vmixcall) BUT select "connect to call". It then allowed me to connect to the call I had set up on my main VMiX computer. It worked a treat on my local network and of course you have the usual vmixcall return feed options so it is fully functional - hoping firewalls won't prove a problem when going between buildings.
I just use an Alesis audio mixer with integrated sound card (i.e. connects to their computer via USB) at the remote computer with a couple of mics and a music keyboard.
Anyone tried this - any tips if it will work or not!
Cheers Andy

Cheers Andy Thanks for your time Ragtec! With the possibility of having vMix free or basic I think we would be able to do this, since vmix to vmix call is 64kbits audio stereo without processing. My problem is the guest is on mac, so I cant run vmix there :-( Thats why I am looking for a browser solution

Browser handling of audio is not very good.
If you want better audio over vMix Call, use an instance of vMix at each end.

Cheers, PFBM

@ PFBM
vMix to vMix Call uses WebRTC (better audio options) Chrome to VMix Call uses WebRTC (restricted audio) Which app is at fault here? It is not possible to “overwrite” Chrome’s coding...

Ice it is known that Firefox is the best browser for vmixcall , not Chrome....
