Remote Guest and Powerpoint controls - how can caller control ppt slides?

In recent productions I have been having callers provide me with PowerPoint files , I load them onto a PC with MS PowerPoint that is on my network, then use NDI to generate a source into vMix and then control the slides for the guest by trying to time their discussions withe the slides.

This works, but it can get sloppy and is not ideal. The guest continually has to ask me to change slides, and timing is just not as smooth as I would like.

I have read one suggestion in the forum to consider a vMix to vMix Call, but this is not practical for my callers to be installing software.

We have tied visual cues such as having the guest nod gently or wiggle their ears, but it's still not the best solution if they forget or I miss the cue.


Any suggestions or ideas or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.

The simplest way I can think of is if the client is pushing slides himself. If you present online (a function of powerpoint) you get a link from microsoft where the presentation can be viewed. You can pick that url and add as a source.
Another option would be some API calls to your vMix from external triggering the slide pushed by the external.

AFAIK that function has been discontinued, please correct me if I am wrong.

@mavik, I stand corrected. You are right, Powerpoint Present Online works (although I still believe it was revoked a while).
During my test now I did not manage to get it working with video clips in the powerpoint, but audio worked.

@everyone, a friend found https://www.mgraves.org/...with-reflect-for-chrome/ which might be an alternative for some. I have not tested it, as I think it is far too complicated for the remote participants we usually work with (normal people, not geeks)

Maybe a combination of the Online PowerPoint plus NDI could work! Let me try that this week and see what happens.

I just download and load the ppt onto my laptop which outputs cia hdmi into my vMix. The remote presenter then TeamViewer into the laptop and navigate the slides themselves.

Assign Shortcut to input where PowerPoint is. Then remote user has an option to control Prev/Next slide via WebShortcuts.Remote user logs into vMix via VmixCall, you return video feed from input where Powerpoint is. That way remote user has instant overview which slide is currently selected.
We used this workflow for a conference and it worked reliably.
Only disadvantage is that user has to have 2 windows open and has to make 2 window arrangement so that he sees vMix Call window and controls, but that is not such a big obstacle.

Wait, so you can access shortcuts from a VMix Call? Are we talking about a browser or through the full app?
I thought shortcuts were only allowed locally?

Whatever you can access over LAN (local area network) and has web interface - you can expose it to the WAN (internet) too. With newer vMix versions you have some security with make those pages password protected and you can limit access just to certain functionalities (just shortcuts or tally).
