None of the 16:9 low bandwidth/resolution options that are popular in YouTube LIVE are present in vMix, this forces the broadcaster to select a higher input resolution, which in turn, means downscaling the source and using aditional resources.

Is it too much trouble to add this standard low bandwidth 16:9 YouTube LIVE supported resolutions?

Thanks,

640x360 is supported, you can select it under the External Output tab in vMix Settings

You are correct, for OUTPUT resolution 640x360 is supported, yet is not supported as input resolution, this forces the broadcaster to choose a higher input resolution such as 1024x576 or 1280x720 which uses more resources. In my case, I have 3 cameras and this completely kills my CPU/GPU.

Can we expect to see 640x360 as an input resolution in the near future? this is a show stopper for me at the moment and is the only thing preventing me from making a purchase.

For best performance and quality the input resolution should match the native resolution of the camera.
This is highly unlikely to be 640x360. Even web cams will scale down from 1280x720 usually so the resource saving benefit is gone.

Martin, I think I'm doing a very poor job of explaining myself. I am very sorry and apologize for that, let me try again and explain myself what the problem is, but first, some known facts:

1) It is a fact that vMix supports 640x360 as an option for OUTPUT resolution, no question about that
2) It is also a fact that vMix does 'NOT' support 640x360 as INPUT resolution, its simply not in the pull down list when selecting a capture device
3) It is my understanding that 'matching' input and output resolutions is the most efficient form of capture as no downsampling and/or scaling is involved. Are we good so far?
4) I can not 'possibly' match the OUTPUT resolution that YouTube is encouraging me to use if there is no INPUT resolution option for it to match.

I have a Lenovo T430 with 3 Logitech C615 USB Cameras, I have tried all scenarios I can think of to broadcast using the least ammount of CPU so video and audio don't get out of sync and/or choppy, here's what I have tried:

a) 1920x1080 INPUT capture is NOT possible as my computer freezes and does not allow me to add USB Capture devices when adding more than 1 device. I assume this to be a hardware limitation (USB bus? not sure?)

b) 1280x720 and 1024x576 INPUT capture WORKS but uses lots of CPU, so when streaming starts video is choppy and audio gets out of sync.

c) 640x480 INPUT capture works great and is VERY efficient in terms of CPU usage, I have broadcasted LIVE for more than 2 hours with NO problems, but this is a 4:3 aspect ratio resolution and does not match my output resolution.

Based on my experience (NOT scientific evidence or fact) "I believe" that 640x360 will perform as good (if not better) than the 640x480 resolution
above, as I'll be matching the output resolution for youtube LIVE and no scaling will be involved.

Based on the above, I believe that having 640x360 as INPUT resolution will solve both my CPU usage problems and aspect ratio mismatch, thats why I asked if I can expect vMix to offer 640x360 as INPUT resolution in the near future.

I'm not demanding a feature nor conditioning my purchase decision on this anymore, I'll probably use vMix anyway as I found VidBlaster to use more CPU resources and I really don't want to keep looking for other alternatives, vMix is amazing but in opinion (and needs) is lacking something I desperately need.

Martin, thanks for listening. Appreciate it.

Thanks,

Have you tried 720x576 which a standard TV format for SD broadcast?

I used that last Friday and my CPU was between 9% and 12%

Hi,

Could you provide some information on your system specifications? CPU, Graphics Card etc?
vMix does all scaling on the GPU which uses no cpu and very little resources in general.

Looking at the cpu jump and render time it looks like maybe your graphics card does not fully support DirectX 10 or is emulated in some way causing high cpu usage.

Martin

Hi Martin,

I have a Lenovo Laptop, model T430 i5 CPU 2.6Ghz and Intel HD Graphics 4000.

Keep in mind I do NOT have performance issues when the INPUT source is 640x480, 320x240 or even 768x576. It also appears that my CPU usage skyrockets *ONLY* when I use INPUT resolutions such as 1024x576 or 1280x720, that's why I wanted to test an input resolution of 640x360

Hi,

Try to stretch the input resolution 640x480 by 1.33 and you will get the 16:9 aspect ratio to your global settings of 640x360.
The quality will decrease a little bit. Just try it, if this works for you.

greets
Martin

That sounds like a nice suggestion! I'll experiment with it tonight.

Thanks! appreciate it

I've just updated vMix 11 and included all supported resolutions in the capture dropdown including 640x360

Excelent news! I'll be testing it tonight.
