Now with Data Sources in Vmix18 using OCR and XML data feed would be a killer feature.

Some news here? May be you can provide the code to set this tool open source, to get more developers and increase the speed of the development.

I would also like to be able to develop this myself. I really need this kind of feature in my work, and it would be great if you could share with us your code somehow.

I think a very powerfull option is to make this software able to read not only clocks. I mean, read score of each team, and the quantity of fauls to put all that information on screen.

Hi,

We were also looking for an OCR solution, and the only commercial solution that we found was Graphics Outfitters' Score OCR. But we were not happy with the functionality and price, so we decided to develop our own solution.

We are now testing a prototype and the recognition accuracy between different scoreboards looks very promising, here is a simple video of how the prototype works:

Im planning to release a beta version after some time to get more input from fellow broadcasters to fine tune this application. If you are interested, I created a simple page, where you can enter your email to receive a demo as soon as it becomes available: http://www.scoreboard-ocr.com

Any comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Regards

Thanks, Siroki!

Ideally I want the software to figure out where the scoreboard is and stretch it out correclty itself. And also figure out multiple digits from a rectange marked by the user, so that the user does no have to mark each digit separately. But this will take more time to implement.

Let us know when you have a version for testing. Have submitted my email thanks. Any idea of when the demo will be available?

I will let you know as soon as it available.
Currently we are working hard to decrease the CPU usage in order to be able to acccomodate 1/10 of a second digit analysis.

My target is to be able to recognize up to 22 digits at the same time with up to 5% CPU usage (Intel core i7 high end laptop). So that the same computer can still be used for live mixing and streaming, which would make a nice budget package.

The worst case scenario is hockey, floorball, handball:
1. game time 00:00.0, 5 digits
2. penalty time x4 0:00, 12 digits
3. score x2 00, 4 digits
4. period number 0, 1 digit

Basketball is much easier though:
1. game time 00:00.0
2. score x2 000
3. period number 0
4. fauls x2 0
5. 24sec clock 00
Only 16 digits in total

Just wanted to drop you a quick update.
We have been working hard and now have a stable version that we used in the field for FIBA basketball tournament for several days. The application still needs improvements in terms of quality and efficiency, and we also found serveral interesting problems to solve that are related to specific scoreboards (and I believe we will find many more). But generally it works ok for a specific scenario.
This is just to let you know we have considerable progress and Im getting closer to a Beta version.

I have attached a video under "Updates", if you want to check out how it performed last week:

Looks great!!

Can we try?

BTW that shot at 5:40 was insane.

Not yet, still some work to do.
We have developed our own graphics service that can display animatged graphics, take data from external sources and visualize, etc.

I LOVE this idea and would love to be able to test it and provide feedback. My E-mail is Michael@Wilsoncreativesolutions.net, this looks like what we've been searching for. We'll start broadcasting High School football from many different locations next month, and already have the infrastructure in place to test this I believe. I'd make archives available to you for review.

Again, please get in touch, I'll also check back here.

Thanks.

Great initiative, I'm following this thread closely ;-)
Have submitted my e-mail on the webform.
Good luck with the development.

Hello, Dark_ata. I would like to receive a demo of the OCR program, but I can not download the demo from: http://radikals.net/OCR_SCOREBOARDS.rar because the link does not exist

I work with VMix 17 and a BlackMagic Duo 2 capture card. I currently use a Panasonic 81 HD camcorder to capture information from a basketball scoreboard. But I would like to be able to use an OCR program to digitize them and incorporate that information into a .xaml extension file.

Thank you.
