Initially, the video from the camera shows great. But, then after several minutes, the video skips or it maybe dropping frames.
The camera is connected to a laptop (Dell M6600 via Firewire connection) for capturing the video.

I am not sure of what the real issue is nor how to resolve it at this point.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Johnny

Hi Johnny,

Could you explain a bit more detail how the camera is connected to your laptop?
The Canon XA10 does not support Firewire as a connection method so I assume you have some kind of converter box?

I may have gotten the name wrong for the connection. Below is the instructions from the camera's manual that describe the connection from the camera to the laptop.

Connecting to a Computer

To connect the camcorder to a computer you will need a computer equipped with an IEEE1394(DV) terminal
and video editing software with video capturing capability installed. Use the optional CV-250F (4 pin-6pin)
DV cable or a commercially available 6 pin-6 pin DV cable.

Thanks for responding,

Johnny

Can you double check the model number on your camera?
The Canon XA10 does not have a firewire connection.
