Problem with Video from Canon xa10 camera skipping or dropping frames

Initially, the video from the camera shows great. But, then after several minutes, the video skips or it maybe dropping frames. The camera is connected to a laptop (Dell M6600 via Firewire connection) for capturing the video.
I am not sure of what the real issue is nor how to resolve it at this point.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Johnny

Hi Johnny,
Could you explain a bit more detail how the camera is connected to your laptop? The Canon XA10 does not support Firewire as a connection method so I assume you have some kind of converter box?

I may have gotten the name wrong for the connection. Below is the instructions from the camera's manual that describe the connection from the camera to the laptop.
Connecting to a Computer
To connect the camcorder to a computer you will need a computer equipped with an IEEE1394(DV) terminal and video editing software with video capturing capability installed. Use the optional CV-250F (4 pin-6pin) DV cable or a commercially available 6 pin-6 pin DV cable.
Thanks for responding,
Johnny

Can you double check the model number on your camera? The Canon XA10 does not have a firewire connection.
